Guys, please feel free chime in your suggestions about this heli buck concept that I improvise. I think it works great if Mark is willing to implement it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is how the heli buck works:

Let's say member X wants to buy $100 heli parts from member Y. Member X paypals Mark Ryder $100 for $100 heli buck and have it credited to Member Y.

Now member Y has $100 heli buck in his a/c and he can use it for purchase on something else.

What are the advantages?

With the heli buck in place, all the scamming activities will be reduced almost to none because Mark is withholding the physical monetary after the deal is done, not the scammer himself. So, it adds an extra layer of protection to the buyer. Also, everybody can save lots of paypal fees without going through paypal repeatedly.

What are the disadvantages?

We need Mark to book keeping the accounting entries of how many heli bucks each rr member has. But well, does he get paid? Yes, from the interest he obtains from the $$ we purchase for the heli bucks.

How to redeem heli bucks?

This needs to be discussed. I am thinking that heli bucks cannot be redeemed for $$ because paypal fees are involved on purchasing heli bucks. Yet, I think it can be used for purchase in stores like HeliProz, HeliProz South etc.

He's said it numerous times, he's not an escrow service.
Won't happen.

This would be an escrow service. RR already has it's hands full developing site software and doing event coverage. RR respectfully declines doing a classified escrow service.

Plus, if he did do it then he could be held partially responsable for deals gone bad.

I don't blame Mark for saying nope. I wouldn't do it either, just too many ways for things to go wrong and who wants to be in the middle of that??

Which is worse, ignorance or apathy? I don't know and I don't care!

I dont think it would be hard to provide this kinda escrow service here on RR, many programs are available to where you can click on it and it goes to a different web site to be monitored keeping it from being linked directly to RR.

Kinda like a Paypal web site.

I feel its a great idea why let Paypal make all the money.

The truly safest way to send money or sell items is with a service like this.

BUT I can imagine the retards who will make it a problem.

This hobby sucks, when your not flying.

I agree with Mark. In this sue happy society, and with all the scammers he would eventually feel the brunt of some dealings gone wrong. Besiedes he has his hands full already.

I someone else would want to run something that might be a different story, under something other than RR though. If RR's name is involved Mark would still have some responsibility.

It all comes down to the parties envolved, trusting your gut, doing your homework, and just having faith in your transaction.

I just see the huge advantage that we can keep the heli bucks circulating around within the RR community without involving Paypal, and of course paypal fees.

Yup.... and for the same reason (I presume) Mark will not go along with the "bad guy list" concept.....

Years ago, someone here on RR explored the idea of starting a "private" escrow type service where he would facilitate the transaction for a fee....

The idea got nowhere.....

Bottom line is that the buyer must be willing to take full responsibility for himself and his transaction..... In cases where there is considerable amount of $$ involved, the only viable course of action (my opinion , of course) is to have the seller send the goods to you first for inspection. Buyer pays for the shipping BOTH WAYS if the goods are returned to the buyer.

This topic has been discussed "ad nauseum" so I'll end it here !

Happy New Year everyone !
