I may have been screwed if there's not something else this could be. About a week or so ago I picked up 4x 25C 3S 2200mah thunderpower batteries for my trex 450 off ebay. They were advertised as only having 10 cycles on each one(he had 6 others for sale).

So I get the batteries and charge them up, full charge cycle and they only take 300mah but read the correct 12.636 volts when done. Whenever I run them the motor on my 450 pulses like the low voltage warning.

I've tried reprogramming the esc to no avail. It's an align 35x with the 450m motor running 85%. My cheapo no name 20C batteries all work fine so I'm pretty sure it's the batteries.

Is there anything different about thunderpower batteries or is there anything I can try to get the cells working right? Or am I just screwed?

Thanks

EDIT: Update, got refund from seller. He admitted he left them sitting charged for 6-8 months, which of course, kills a battery.

Sounds like battery problems since your "cheapo's" work.

How many Amps to they take on recharge? Make sure you are charging with a balancer.

Why don't you get back to the seller and ask some nice questions. Like if he'll take them back. I would definitely leave some negative feedback if they are bad.

Hope you did not pay too much for them.

That's one of the reasons I like to buy Heli stuff on RR. I only buy from Helimen and up with good classified feedback. I've never been taken that way.

Good luck.

Ummm...

First you buy an Ebay Special and expect factory preformance. Now its TP's fault for your Ebay batteries not working. You need to return them to where ever you baught them and get your money back...since you baught them from ebay there should be some protection.

If you had purchased batteries from a vendor or TP directly and had issues that would have been another story and I know for a fact they would take care of you.

Contact TP directly and see if they can do anything for you...

BTW, which TP packs did you buy???

hey, these sound like TP Extreme packs and also sound like you got screwed! did you leave feed back already and also who was it on ebay, As a TP rep. eco8 and I, buy from TP or a TP distributor from now on! Right now TP has the new 45C cells that will crank out some good power and last for 100s of flight. the extremes dont lsst no more than 40 to 100 flights. enerland cells, that suffered big time TP drop this company

Hey calm down there Eco8gator. Nowhere did I say anything was TP's fault. The fact is that I bought batteries that were only supposed to have been used 10 times each so yeah I did expect factory performance.

I would have bought them new but I don't like paying $70 per battery. I just think that is pretty ridiculous. They have got to be making 400% profit on these batteries.

Yes these were the 3S 2200mah TP V2 Extreme batteries. I charged them at 2 amps on a hobbico accu-cycle elite charger with an astroblinky balancer.

This was the guy's reply to my message on ebay:
i bought the packs in september 2008 and the ones that you received barely were used at all so they probably sat for 8 months , they say you need to use them and then recharge for three to four times to restore the output after sitting for so long and make sure to balance them every time like i did.
I'm not real experienced with lipos but it sounds like they are toast and his answer is bs.

Hey, sorry you are having trouble.. They are, over a year old. And as already said, Give ThunderPower a call and see what they say..

According to their web site the 45C 3s 2250 packs are less than 70 bucks.. Shoot the 30C 3s 2250 packs are selling for 58 bucks.. both are great performers..

Do a search on RR about lipos sitting idle for a long time. I seem to remember a thread that said there is a way to try and restore them. It also said it may take 2-4 cycles. If it doesn't work, call TP Tech Support and ask for help. If they are truely not serviceable, ask if you can upgrade them for credit to the 45C packs.

My buddy has upgraded his, but he was the original purchaser.

I read somewher on the internet that lipos start dying the minute they are born used or just sitting on the shelve. one thing I decided is I go for new lipos only. Unless of course your friend at the club just demo`d them for and u know he bought them recently.Dave As I always say education is usualy expensive.

lipo storage

If they were stored fully charged for a year that will definitely ruin a lipo, even a one that was never used. So they may have been nearly new but were ruined by improper storage. If the seller is was unfamiliar with lipos he may not even know he ruined them.

Cycle the packs a few times and see if they come to life. The older style packs required cyclicing before they put out their maximum output.

If its still a dead pack, send them back to the ebay person pending a refund.

Thanks for the tips guys, will try cycling 4-5 times and see what happens. If no fix I'll call TP for ideas. Last resort I'll file a claim on the ebay seller.

If you would be so kind as to advise us what happens when you cycle them. The information could be useful to others.

Will do, I almost have them all down to 9v, then I'll charge them back up and repeat a total of 3 times.

Well I cycled them all 3 times and they are still doing the exact same thing. Still pulsing. Even tried running one of them hard on the 450 for a couple minutes and cycling it again, no help there. It's like it has the power(good pitch pumps), yet low voltage pulsing.

Sent a message asking for a refund so we'll see how that goes.

The seller's ID is: powerace2001

I contacted him a few times and he never responded once I said cycling didn't fix them and I wanted a refund.

I filed a claim with ebay last night. He sure responded to them quickly so he is getting messages. He elected to let ebay handle the claim according to the notification I got. I know he did put no refunds on the auction, but he misrepresented the item as being tested and working. I also have a message through ebay where he admitted storing the batteries for an extended period of time and that they were not functioning properly, IE: advising me to try and cycle them to bring them back to life.

I guess we'll see how that goes. On a side note, I ordered some hyperion batteries for $40 a piece new. I guess I should have done that to begin with, only $12 more than I paid for these. Live and learn I guess.

Hopefully u paid through paypal, communicate with eBay/paypal and forward those emails to them, he obviously misrepresented them by listing as tested then tells u how to possible bringm back to life. Well good luck, hope u get your cash back, by the way I bought 2 mystery 3s 25-30c 2800mah for $50 shipped, I get 15 mins flight time on my 450's, just a thought

Thanks, I did pay by paypal and all communication was done through ebay messaging so they have a record of it.

I'm pretty set on batteries for now. Got 4 hyperions and I just ordered 6 of these new "blue lipos". I don't know if I can list the site without getting banned. People have been testing them and they have better output than the zippy lipos. See how these work out, they were $16 each + $5 flat rate shipping out of california. I'll post a thread on these after I get them and use the crap out of them on the new 450 pro.
