Received a nice present for Christmas this year - Santa showed up with the 1st Align FBL unit off the production line

Set up is ridiculously easy:

Contrary to other FBL systems, the Align system needs the radio in 120' swash mode.
Press the SET button while powering on - this brings you into the 1st setup phase. Here you set everything to zero. Adjust collective pitch to +/- 14' by adjusting the swash %. For cyclic, simply adjust the aileron cyclic pitch to +/-14', again by adjusting the swash %. Use the same swash % for elevator.
This completes phase 1.

Press the SET button to go to Phase 2 - setting the Elevator Limit. Simply move the elevator stick to full positive and negative travel.

Press the SET button to go to Phase 3 - setting the Elevator Direction. Check that the swash moves in the right direction. If not, reverse the direction by moving the stick to alternate the light from green to red (or vice versa)

Do the same for Aileron.

Swash done. Power off.

Power on (not holding the SET button). After power on, check that the swash moves in the right direction by tilting the heli. Swash moves in the opposite direction for both elevator and aileron.

Press the SET button for 3 seconds. This enters the tail setup. Simply set up the tail as you would the Align 760 tail gyro.

All done.

In the radio - set your roll rates by increasing or decreasing the swash %. Tail gyro gain is set like any other tail gyro.

Go fly.

The kit comes with a FBL head, sensor, control box, special servo wheels and a nifty "flybar" holder to check the pitch. At least you have a use for the flybars in your spare parts drawer...

Guys - this thing is the best thing since sliced bread. It flies awesomely. My only problem now is what to do with my SK360s and V-bars...

Here are some photos:

Not sure I am welcome on Team Align with all my other helis...

I am originally from your neighbor country, Denmark, so kind of thought I was the only Edvard in Taiwan. Where did you find that link?

Oh - I see RH Resource used my photos...
Glad to be of assistance... I guess...

Not a member of Team Align though, although I do fly on the Align field in Taiwan.

Wow, thats nice that site is using your pictures for their personal use.

Anyway, thanks for sharing and we'll see how this whole thing pans out. Hopefully it works well without catastrophic glitching or something.

hey, that was my plan

i have a 700LE kit in waiting. the vbar is sitting on the workbench awaiting a head. i hope to do back-to-back flights on align v. vbar on align's head--if an electronics swapout is that simple.

i really want to believe. but, with all the settings in vbar to tailor the flight to one's own style, i'm not that optimistic about align guessing how i fly....or did i miss some steps in the setup above???

if it ain't broke, break it.

to be clear, I am not well versed in FBL systems and correct me if i am wrong, but the v-bar has to be adjusted in the software and software only. Other systems like the TotalG, and it sounds like the Align will be like this as well, are adjustable using the radio perameters. This sounds like a much better way to go to me as it allows you to adjust on the fly. So not as much is needed in the software and you dont need to keep putting the machine on the bench to dial it in.

You just use the Control panel to adjust on the fly. Once it is ialed in, it is set

The limitations in its software could be its downfall as if the software is not right it will fly wrong, going from 3.6 to 4 on V Bar which is upgradeable was a big step.I assume the Align system is as you buy it with no firmware or feature upgrades possible.

Also is Align saying you can use their standard 2 in 1 to power the radio now if it has their system fitted?

Yes, I should have been more clear when I said software, OR control panel but you still need to put the heli on the bench and hook up a cable so its not "on the fly". Landing and tweaking gyro gain from the radio while at an idle would be on the fly. Can the V-bar do this? I dont know. Is it just limited to its 3 banks?
