Are you sure you're not running really rich on a no wind day?

Cool picture!

Sweet, I would be out there flying too! Even if it's just hovering close by because you can't see the heli anywhere else .

Tuesday was a no wind day. I swear I had to stop and let the smoke clear out. It was burning my eyes!

Seriously, this is all fog. We even had the tail wander and found it was due to the ice formation on the tail blades. The mains and paddles were the same too!!!

Here's a little Trex 450 after a 6 minute flight

Looks like IFR ( instrument flight rules, in case your wondering ) conditions to me. The ice on the 450 did it make it shake much for being out of balance? Just wondering. Nice pictures though. Chuck

That might be one of the best non-flight pictures ever.

Who raised the ground since I took off?

Yeah, VFR was a no hope!

It didn't seem to upset the balance, so I guess the ice was forming symetrically on each side. We did notice a couple of things though;

1. The blades were losing efficiency due to the disturbed airflow
2. gyro performance was poor. This could be either tail blade inefficiency or just the gyro not liking the cold conditions

clearly efficiency was effected and you could hear it on the blade once the ice built up. However, we were all glad just to get out to fly

Are you not using the new de-icing software that the FAA uses??? Not using it can cause catastrophic failure and total loss of lift from the blade structure.

You have to know that your heli is not certified for flight into known icing conditions. Cool, make that...., cold pictures. Dihard for sure.

I have had that happen and cause an abrupt emergency landing, not auto. Auto would have killed it.

Awesome picture of classic icing.

+1 should be in RR main page photo rotation.

Why Hover a Yak, when a Heli does it better?
