I just got a "pre-owned" 600, and was wondering about the tail drive belt tension. I have an E-325 and it's belt tension is said to allow for 5mm of flex at the front gear. The 600 just seemed quite loose at the front gear with over 12mm of flex? Any advice is appreciated!

You can run a belt alot looser than many people think. As long as you don't skip teeth in flight and get a jerky tail you are OK.

Tighter is better.

I disagree but "tighter is better" is a simple statement.

Too tight is bad, too loose is bad.

Loose and not skipping is good, tight but not putting drag on the gear train is good.

I run mine on the loose side.

It's simple, loosen the bolts in the tail gear case and pull on the boom firmly. While doing this, tighten a bolt, then tighten all of them. Not saying to pull as hard as you can, but you want it firm, I wouldn't worry about how many mm you can push the belt in.
Loose belts can make the tail sloppy and tail belts tend to loosen up after a number of flights, better to be tighter. Your mileage may vary though.

I know for the raptors some people would loosen the bolts, hold the heli from the tail fin and the weight of the heli would provide enough tension and you would tighten the bolts.
