All I have been reading about the Protos is how fragile it is. Have they done anything to the plastic to make it a little better? Is it that bad?

Plastic version is for sure more fragile then other brands BUT... you do not buy it based on its crash survivability, rather on how it flies. That being said there is a CF version now of course which IMO is worth the bit extra as it is more robust. Each to their own and some will debate even the plastic version is not fragile but I disagree and well....it all depends on "how" you crash it. With ANY heli it is roulette on how it lands, hits etc and what will be damaged is all again a guess and gamble.

...Once upon a time there were Nitros, flybars and frequency pins...

what you have to remember is, yes the plastic breaks easier, BUT its very cheap to repair, and super fast to repair as well.
No locktight, and maybe 10 screws total for a frame replacement.
If your crashing every weekend, use the sim more lol, and buy the carbon frames.
If your not, then plastic works just fine.

For the love of the hobby

Over-tightening the screws on the Protos plastic makes it more apt to crack in hard landings, especially in cold weather. My over-tightening lesson was learned with a tail case. The Carbon fiber frame is more crash resilient.

As stated earlier, the heli is built to be lightweight and to fly. Not to crash. That being said the plastic parts are cheap and fall in line with Align 450 size parts in price range. I have owned my Protos since the 1st week they shipped in the states. If I could only have 1 heli out of ANY of my 7 helicopters the Protos would be the one hands down... Plastic or Carbon.

I agree with all the above, as with any heli, I have crashed the Protos at full speed into the ground and got away with very little damage and then the next time just clipped it and it's in pieces.

The parts are cheap.. enjoy the flying!
