Was just watching the CBS evening news. They were talking about security and the full body scanners. They said the con to the body scanner was radiation. They went on to say "however, it's a very small amount. Equivalent to flying for 2 minutes in an airplane". What the hell does that mean!? Radiation on the plane????

The earth's atmosphere protects us from radiation. As we climb to higher altitudes when flying, there's less and less of it protecting us. We're exposed to radiation on the surface, as we climb to higher altitudes we're just exposed to more of it.

Yeah, well I know about that. Negligible, right? But the media, typical of them, throw that out there without explaining what they meant by it. Time to turn the news off again I guess.... I know I'm much happier by not listening to it...

I guess there is always the alternative of having the guy beside you lite his underpants on fire and blow the plane up. Hmmm. I will take the radiation!!!

Me too! But the jist of my post was the media making a comparrison between body scanner radiation and an airplane ride. And I'm sure the only reason they mentioned it is because that's what some government idiot told them. Meaningless anyway. What airplane!? J3, 737, Gulfstream? All cruise at different altitudes. The only people with less intelligence than the news media are the people that watch and listen to that sh&t! I guess I'm as guilty, and stupid, as anyone else. Time to turn the damn thing off!

I didn't know that people who work on commercial airline flights are listed as radiation workers.
