Hey guys,

My Logo 500 3D has JR DS 8231 cyclic servos, I wish to upgrade to the Mikado V-Bar (Full size).

Would the JR DS 8231's be okay with the V-Bar system, I know they will not be quite as good as the more expensive ones but they won't fail or anything etc?

Thank you.

8231's

I tried those servos on my first vbar and they wouldn't work for some reason...so I sent them to be checked and they came back fine?

but they still didn't work right?

I thought maybe it was because those servos are so slow...I haven't tried the 8231's since though...

Hi Jag,

That's not great to hear, I can't really see why V-Bar would care about the speed of the servos (or even how it would detect the speed). I hope this isn't the case.

Well it's either new servos or V-Bar, and I know V-Bar would be a heck of a lot more fun and provide more benefits.

Thanks for your feedback.

I would say No, they are 0.22sec servos, too slow for flybarless unfortunally.

(effect is the same as too slow servo on the tail, gyro cant work and you get wobble etc)

I flew those servo for a while with out any problems on my first V/bar. I would never buy them again, but they will work for general flying around. Keep in mind the speed issue but they WILL work

What do you reckon then guys? Get V-Bar or get 3 new cyclic servos and stick to the flybar? Considering what I said above .

I don't mind slightly reduced performance, I mean it's gotta be better than flybarred still right?

Thanks for the help again guys.

GET THE V/BAR!!!

Then upgrade in the future. But it depends what your flying style is. Are the servos hampering your flying if they are, get the servos but if they are not get the V/Bar and wait on the servos until they become a problem.

Nah, I would certainly say the flybar is more, as the cyclic speed is quite slow, I fly 3D both tight and open flying. I guess compared to new servos where the only advantages would be crisper control and faster reactions in heavy cyclic/pitch manoeuvres.

Some might ask why I created this thread when I had already pretty much decided on V-Bar, I just wanted to make sure it was going to be compatible.

I`ve been using JR8231`s with my V Bar on my T rex 600 for nearly 12 months now - not a problem.
Quick enough and I don`t even feel like I need to swap them out.

Hi Malc, that's great to hear! I hope I don't sound rude at all because I do not mean to be in the slightest but could I ask what type of flying you do?

I can't find hardly any info on these servos so I would just like to hear from other people who use them and have perhaps compared them against others.

They seem good to me (maybe a tiny bit slow on the bench compared to the more expensive ones) but I haven't really had the chance to play around with standard size servos much.

Hi Laurence

Not full on 3D,just fast sports stuff, loops, flips, rolls etc.
Fine for that.

I do use JR8717`s on my T Rex700 though.

It's NOT dependant on your flying style really, when using too slow servos or the Vbar it becomes a problem to control the heli.

Skittish, not locked in, wobbles etc.

T-rex 600 has a higher mechanical gain default then the Logo, I helped a few people with servos in the same range of speed on logos which was not flying good at all.

So just because they work on heli X they might not work at heli Y,just so you are aware of it, in case your heli doesnt fly good.

8231's

I forgot to mention that when I tried these servos it was on a logo 600 and they did not fly worth a CRAP!

Like MrMel said...it is dependant on machine...I personally wouldn't use them...but that's just me..

If you consider all the money you have invested into a machine...what's another couple hundred spent on GOOD fast servos?

Like I've said, it's V-Bar or new servos, not both. I can't afford both you're talking two very expensive separate upgrades.

When I'm back working, earning some money I'll be getting a lot more upgrades.

An idea....

pick up a used vbar and a set of used servos...you can probably get both for about the cost of a new vbar..

you can pick up a set of 9452's for like 125$ and a vbar used for about 325-350...

My 8231`s were originally fitted to my T Rex 600N when the kit was first built way back.

I had a great deal on eight of them at the time when I was putting together my Vario Scaler.

The heli flew fine, so I did the conversion and it was still not a problem.
I think if I was building a new kit now I would fit some 8717`s or 8915`s.

As mentioned this is what is fitted to my T Rex700 and also my not long completed Spectra G.

Makes a setup very very expensive though if you do it all in one go

Hey guys, just a quick one. You know how you're meant to move the ball links in when you goto V-Bar?

Well, as these servos are quite slow but precise would it be better to leave them as I have them now for flybarred on my Logo 500 (To keep speed up) or move them in a bit?

(No not got V-Bar yet )
