To get you up to date- I've had 4 110-hv ESC's burn out on me. First thought it was motor related, but when it did it on my new name brand motor I knew the issue was somewhere else. Castle has been awesome at repairing the two broken ones (need to send two more in again though) yet didn't give me a reason as to what was wrong with them / what they did to fix. Invoice said "replaced" etc...

So anyway, I've never really liked the "Craaack" that I get when plugging in the 12s lipo. I also noticed that when the ESC's stopped working the "Craack" would be drastically quieter or non existent. After some reading I saw that others got around this with the resistor trick. Essentially it's a separate wire off the main power wires you plug in first that has a resistor. I've read what happens is it charges the capacitors on the ESC slowly vs. giving them an instant shot of full power.

After trying 4 different resistors (First were too high and throwing off cell count as ESC initialized) I settled on a 1/2 watt 15ohm resistor. Spark is gone and it counts 12s w/out issue. Only have 15 flights on it now but it's now at a point where it's the longest working ESC I've had on it. So thoughts? Too early to tell? Is the resistor making the difference? Hopefully this helps someone else out and hopefully Castle will repair these other two I burned out figuring it out along the way...

Adding a pic of how it's wired, the red wire with white strip is the one with 1/2w 15ohm resistor in it and in fact can kind of see the shape of it under the heat shrink near bullet...

I never liked the spark, and my connectors were getting destroyed so I used a resistor. But not from the beginning. Yet my ESC still burned out. So well, at least my connectors were alive. But CC replaces them fine. That was hv85. Then hv110 started giving me exact same symptoms like hv85 before it burned out, it was getting hot, and the beeps were bothering gyro, so I sent it to repairs as well before it burned out.

Cell count? Are you using auto lipo mode? I can't remember the exact settings without plugging in mine. I previously used heli fixed endpoints then gov mode in 700E's.

Done around 150 flights on one 110HV and over 200 on the other. Still going strong. Used V2 up to V2.16 firmware. Gonna try V3 next.

Had spark arrestors on both from day one. Using 3x 1 watt resistors, 18, 22 & 27 ohm in parallel for a total resitance of about 8 ohm & 3W otherwise 1W gets too hot.

The other week I had the wire to one spark arrestor fail & had 3 flights with the full spark at 12S. Now I'm having an issue that in flight there seems to up to 3 very brief shutdowns - less than a second that results in a dip from 2000rpm to 1600rpm then back to normal.

Swapped speedies, no difference really. Also my old datalogs show the same power dips, weird. Only other thing I changed was from Scorpion 4035-560kv to 500kv motor. Will swap that out & see what it does.

Never thought about taking it out of auto lipo and telling it the lipo is 12s. I am using the helicopter programing with fixed end points. Lipo on soft to cut at 3.2v etc... Once I re figure out the idea head speed (switched to 810mm blades) to find my vibe free range I'll switch it to governor mode.
