Before you put FBL on the Vibe:
1) Fly it as is
2) Try someone else's FBL. Doesn't have to be a Vibe... all FBL pretty much fly the same except for power. Plus, everyone who just sunk $550 into electronics and a head conversion are OF COURSE going to says it's the duck's nutz cause it's theirs... you need to try one w/o the halo effect and see what you really think.

I have a mini-V FBL Protos which is a blast to fly, but I still prefer the Vibe feel... you feel more connected than you do with FBL. I have also flown a friend's FBL TRex 700. I feel like I'm flying a computer. Also, FBL requires some re-learn of timing for quick maneuvers.
No comparison IMO. First of all a 500 sized machine is NEVER going to fly like a .50 sized one FBL or not. Secondly I had both a flybarred Vibe 50 as well as a FBL one. The FBL one was much more locked in and WAY faster on the cyclics. The Vibe 50 is pretty fast as is but with the increase in power the FBL had, it was a no brainer IMO.
If you flew a FBL setup that was not tuned for you then it is definitely going to feel weird to you.

When you spent $600 on that Vibe 50 airframe, didn't you think it was "duck's Nutz" although it has issues that have to be sorted?
Bottom line, go FBL on the Vibe if you want but if you have not tried and flown a correctly setup FBL Vibe, you won't know what you are missing...........Ron

I've done a lot of tweaking and tried a lot of gains. Still working it though. Until I find the magic setting I stand by my observations. I'm not the only one out there... different strokes for different folks I guess.

The best advise, regardless of whether it's a CX2 or a FBL Rigid 3D, is to try someone else's before sinking 1/2 a G + in it. You may fall in love, you may decide you don't like the cyber feel.

I prefer hand-flying a piper cub over a C-130 on autopilot some days just because it's NOT locked in like a sim. Maybe it's just me.

Like I said... different strokes

Stock except tail rotor blades in the 85-92mm range. Flys like a pattern plane for a .50 size.

KBDD Paddles (Much easier to see), KBDD Tail Blades (Short, durable and easy to see), YS 56, Outrage 56 Pipe, (MORE POWER!). SWE 630mm CF blades (MORE POWER, Easier to See, better autos -WITH the YS 56). Header tank for extra run time and a little better chance of not sucking air, OS Bubbleless Clunk.

Fusano tail fins (Neon Red) for the TREX 700 (Easier to see, longer to keep the dang tail out of the dirt). Two 5mm thick washers for the rear landing gear. Jacks the back end up to help keep the tail out of the dirt.

I'd like to get the JR (ASG?) Metal grips, but it's mostly bling. Maybe the Kasama tail to help deal with potential Vibe issues and shorten the tail diameter.

Cheers!
Lee

630's on a Vibe 50???? Really??? You must not be flying it hard. You may want to measure your clearance with those 630's. Your short KBDD tail blades might be gaining you some extra clearance for the tail however I would still worry about clipping the boom with agressive 3D flying. I had Hypergrips and RT610s on mine once which is like a 623mm blade on stock grips and you really couldnt go any longer. 620's at the most on the Vibe 50

Well, that's what Heli Direct had up on their site. Said they were great on the Vibe with the YS56. I'm still waiting for the blades to show up, so I guess I'll find out. If they are too long, I'm sure they will exchange them for me. But I really liked the cool orange paint job. LOL.

Yeah, I think you will find that they are a no-go on the Vibe. I know they fit the Velocity but the Velo is a bit longer then the Vibe and will support 630's.

EDIT: just checked your link and they dont say they fit the Vibe that I could see, only states they are sweet with the YS56.

Right you are, just got caught up in the moment. ;-)

I'm going to be trying to modify the tail and make my own belt drive mod using TREX 600 parts, so maybe I can extend it a bit.

Also, I'm looking at going to the Kasama tail, and I wonder if that would drop the size of the rotor enough with the shorter tail blades to make it all fit.

Oh well, live and learn.

I don't think the Vibe needs any upgrades, blades, paddles, motors & pipes are what make the biggest difference.

Is anyone running Stick Bangers, I tried them and did not like them at all, way to pitchy and fast for my flying, I was running them with the white align paddles.

I have logged the most flights on my Vibe with 600SB's and hypergrips. (using Superstubz 3105's) I love the cyclic speed, crispness, and pop it had with this setup but recently I realized that the heli doesnt track worth a crap or make me feel locked in when I fly it. Today I switched back to stock grips and put some vblade extremes on it and I felt very locked in with it again. The Vblades are quick like the SB's but they are more precise flying in hard 3D IMO. They have a really nasty "bite" which I really like. Right now I am very happy with it again because it does exactly what I want when I tell it to and it is quick, precise and very locked in feeling to me.

Just keep trying different setups til you find one that you feel locked in with. What I love you may hate and visa versa. Have you tried rotortech 610's yet? They have really good pop but track much better then the SB's do. They are an excellent blade for 3D still and they are smooth flying still.

Matter of taste. I usually fly SB with V paddles which are faster than white Aligns.

Also fly with RT610 and black Aligns.

Put some new Edge 603 blades on mine and they are faster than the SB's i was using and they also auto better too. Stubs 393 paddles with no weights = very fast.YS 56 also makes it a beast.

DS8717, How do you feel the Edge 603's compare to the SB's as far as FFF tracking is concerned?

I like fast but I also want locked in. I hate twitchy, unpredictable flying helis. I have been really wanting to try the Edge 603s for awhile now.

I'll have to try the Rotortech 610's. I mostly run regular radix, for me they seem to be the best all around blade. I tried the SBers because I wanted it to flip and roll a little faster/tighter but they were too much for my liking. I like going big and can't do a lot of fast 3D stuff yet.

I bet you'll like the RT610s then. They fall right in between the SB's and the reg Radix IMO. They are quicker then regular radix but still track really well. (definatly better tracking then the SB's) Give em a shot.

RT610 will suit you then. All around blade, good pop, speed, auto and wide maneuvers.

No fart at all very silent blade.

I also like the RT610s. I am flying the SBs right now though... autos are good enough, but not great. With a little wind I can kill the motor on downwind over the weeds and make the 180 airplane style turn to land in front of me, but they are tired when they get down. With the KBDD paddles they still track really well. I think I'm gonna throw the 610s back on just to try them again... it's been a while since they saw action. I never did try the regular radix on it... I have a set though... maybe I'll give them a shot again and do a little more interesting auto work.

Cheers and happy new year!

They track very good,as good as any blade i have used. The SB blades i replaced were 125gm and the Edge blades were 123.5 gms. They auto nice too, they have something left at the bottom. I liked them so much i put some 693 blades on my SG which had some 710SB's and they were faster but still track great. The edge blades are made by Funkey who makes the Radix blades, very good blades.

I have also been running the Edge 603 blades - both the flybar and flybarless version. I am not running a flybarless setup but I like the feel of those blades a bit better, I find they track better and still have a good quick response.

Me too. Switched to Edge when they came out. I fly the 603s and 693s with 105mm tails. I just hope they come out with some paddles and 85-87mm tails.

I used to be a huge RotorTech fan until I tried my first set of Edge blades... Things change since

G
