Great site outlining the history of many airports that no longer exist throughout the country. Check your area, you just may be surprised.

That's pretty cool. There have been a few emergency landings on the airfield behind Silverwood (North Idaho). I only live about 5 minutes from there.

Very cool web site! I checked out several airports that have been phased out in NC. I drive by the location of the old Raleigh Municipal Airport twice a day on my commute to/from work.

I used to fly in and out of Sanford/Lee County airport a lot. They show some good info on the old Sanford airport, but the latest aerial photo of its supposed location (and legend that nothing remains) is the wrong location.

This is the correct location and shows the remains of the airport clearly:

I used to be a member of the Eglin AFB Aeromodellers. They fly on an Aux field near Eglin AFB, where Doolittle and his Raiders practiced to takeoff from a "carrier" with B25s.

Pretty cool site. I found out the the Baton Rouge GOHSEP (Governor's Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness) where I often fly helicopters is the old Baton Rouge Downtown airport. I can't wait to spring this little fact on some LA natives.
