I was researching the exact same thing for IRCHA 2010, and due to the large size of the case for a .90 sized heli, it appears you have to pay a lot extra to put it on the commercial airliner. It seems cheaper to ship it to your destination separately. I have a friend who's probably going to transport my big heli for me to IRCHA, but if not then I'm thinking of building a wooden crate and shipping it UPS.

I've heard of people using the SKB hard shell golf cases which you would put your own foam in, but apparently they are having to partially dismantle their .90 sized heli to get it to fit in the case and are still having to pay an oversize/overweight fee with the airlines.

Transporting a .50 sized heli would be a lot easier.

Mark Ryder used this to transport his heli to Mayday in 04, it was pretty sweet, he just had to remove the boom and it fit his Hirobo X-Spec. Maybe he'll chime in and show internal pictures of it if he has them.

OK, here is my latest effort. Heli is held by the landing gear and
is shock mounted. Photo was taken before all latches were available.
Base is ajustable for different models. My next one will be shorter
with the tail boom removed to save on size, 20 inches shorter.
Case material is lighweight corrugated plastic. 32Lbs wo heli.

Well, I think it's a great idea.

I've been looking to build a box for my Spectra either out of wood or plastic or something else, but building a 4ft x 2ft x 1ft box out of anything is going to be heavy no matter what. I thought maybe I could fit my Spectra into a Rubbermaid container or something similar, but it is hard to find one long enough. I do not like taking the boom off my heli if I can help it.

Let me know if you decide to start selling custom made heli carrying cases.

Another option is to leave off the canopy, that can reduce the length
by several inches. That may make the difference of going into a trunk
of a car or not. You tell me your requirements and I will try to make
it happen. You should allow a little clearance for movement on the
shock mounts. The canopy could be stored in the cover. Also there is
room under the tail boom for a transmitter or a parts box, but will
add to overall weight. A DX7 and case weighs 7 lbs, as much as the
Trex 600. The case in the picture also has wheels for easier transport.
Yes, I plan on making custom cases, just want to air all the options
before beginning.

Heli box

This has been talked about before. There is a hobby shop in Texas that carries this one:

http://www.rcandme.com/align-metal-...9216#googlebase

specifically made to hold the t-rex 600 w/radio. As long as you dont need it shippped..that can get expensive.

Good luck and pm me if you find something cheaper.
