"Alvin and the Chipmunks II" opened just before Christmas day last week.

We provided and flew the R/C heli (Trex500 in a H500 Fuse) in the chase sequence towards the end of the movie. (also had three turn-key back up machines, a broom, and a large trash bag )
I piloted the heli and will readily admit it was the hairiest flying ive ever done.
The director (Betty Thomas) was a dream to work for and i found it amazing what can be done when you’ve got someone like her giving direction.

Awesome! I took my daughter and niece to see it on opening day and I know which scene you're talking about. Too cool!

That's great! Were taking the G-kids to see it.

I can empathize a little. My first movie gig was on a film called "The Mighty" way back in 1997. I had to haul an animatronic bird around under the heli connected by fishing line. I remember thinking "how hard can it be?"

That is sooo cool. Now I have a real reason to see the movie; a fellow Heli pilot did the filming in a move.
Gary Travis also a RR member and Gasser pilot did the desert scene in Spiderman or Quantum of Solace, I forget which.

Keep up the good work guys.

This hobby is WAY too expensive!!

I too saw it with the kids last weekend. Great flying! With all the CGI work done on the chipmunks, why didn't they CGI the heli as well? Seems to be the easier and cheaper solution

Thanks for the compliments guys !
I remember thinking "how hard can it be?"
I remember at one point i was trying to advise on how hazardous a certain shot would be to fly with the way the lighting was set up (shinning right in my face). Then the DP turned to me and said, " This is Hollywood man.....What the F*#@K are you thinking?! "
why didn't they CGI the heli as well?
Actually they did. After we shot our sequences they took the heli and created a CGI replica of it and used it for the shots that were just impossible to fly (like through a window that was too small for the actual heli)
