Even though Ive only run 6s on my 600e, there should not be any reason why 8/12s setup should strip gears any more than 6s, if your running the correct pinion and headspeed, I would think if your getting less bogg (rotor speed fluctuation) with a higher voltage setup you should have less chance of stripping a gear not more, the only reason I could see gears being stripped is if you were useing an extremely small pinion on a high KV motor (8-9tooth or something like that).

The stock 1700 kv setups used 10 or 11 t, so I would think so long as your running 10t or larger in whatever configeration it should have enough teeth on the main gear.

In the 4 years or so Ive been flying rc helis Im guessing Ive had maybe 5 main gears strip, and in each case it was always on spool up, I think in the 3 years Ive had my Trex 600 Ive stripped 1 main gear when I accidentily dripped my motor oil on it.

one of the reasons you'll strip gears with a higher voltage setup is the addtional torque/forces between the motor and motor mount.

the motor will simply push itself away from the main gear and strip.

i've had to tap the 3mm holes of the 4035 series motors to 4mm and add larger washers that can grab more 'meat'.

with the 3mm holes i had to torque them down so hard to keep them from moving that after about 4 times i'd pulled the threads right out of the motor....and, the motor was still sliding back and stripping gears on me.

since tapping to 4mm i havent had an issue.

FYI, this at 2250 headspeed. with a good esc/gov there is no bogging. it will find a weak link...and the 3mm holes are it.

if it ain't broke, break it.

8s is fine on a 600e. I fly one all the time, absolutely no collective management required, for about 4 mins. This is using an 8s 5000 pack.

I can get my buddies setup but pretty sure its a scorpion 600kv or so using a kontronic jazz. 18t pinion?

Unless you are using 4s in series, 8s packs are a bit weird to find.u

Hey there HB man. Just wanted to post there for others to see:

I have been flying my buddies Trex 600e @ 8s for probably a year and a half. It's pretty nutty, gobs of power.

He's using:

Motor: Scorpion 4025-890
ESC: Kontronik 55-12-10
Pinion: No clue, maybe 18t? Use a headspeed calc like Mel's as mentioned before ( http://www.readyheli.com/Online_Head...lator_s/81.htm )
Packs: FP 8s 4200 and TruRC 8s 5000

He can get about 5.5 mins I get about 4.5 mins before we run the pack too low.

Too Long; Didn't Read (tl:dr):

Yes 8s is plenty voltage for a 600 size.
