Got 2 sets of HW 3190A wood blades from Century. I have purchased many in the past and never had a problem or had to ballance them. 1 of these 2 sets seem to have a ballance problem. I discovered a nasty wobble on spool up and in a hover of the Hawk. Thought WTF, it couldn't be the blades cause its never been a problem in the past with these blades as far as I can remember. Checked everything else and no problem. Put the blades on a balancer and was astonished of how out of ballance the pair was. To be exact 1 was out 2.36gm from the other. It took a 5 inch wide aluminum ac tape to get it to ballance out. I could not believe it. I reinstalled them and it was as smooth as silk. Now, haven said that, I have never had to ballance a pair of these blades in the past. They have always been spot on. I guess when you get to trust the quality of something you get comfortable and dont even consider it anymore. I am still scratching my head trying to figure out how 1 blade out of the pair could be so far off!! The tracking tape that comes with the blades I usually toss out due to its not needed. But this set they could have sent 8 strips and it would have not made up the differance!! I think I may have a 1 in 10000 odds of getting something this off ballance. I have no complaints due to the large # of times it all worked perfect! Just thought Century should no!! Oh, and by the way, The other set was spot on!

Ok Ok maybe they were both a defect in manufacturing, But when I spooled up my head wobbled and malfunctioned, or maybe I felt like something malfunctioned..I may have to look up the word malfunction and change it to its not working the way it was meant to.

Woodies should always be/ need balancing and glueing and then the Max HS is only 1850

That's why I only use minimaly funkeys for flying
Woodies aren't safe IMO

Please loose them before someone gets hurt

Not until now did I need to ballance them (woodies) they have always been spot on in the past. I use them for testing new maneuvers and the like so as not to trash my good blades. I have no complaints on the woodies for they have served their purpose well.

I have always liked the Century wood blades and have used many of them in the past. IMHO, they are the best wood blades I have found.

Over the years I have the odd pair from my LHS that were not well balanced. I consider anything that required more then a 2 inch strip of tracking tape (about 1 oz.) to be too far out of balance.

It was never a problem with the LHS, they would always just replace them.

Man, IMHO, a 2.6 gram difference should definitely be considered a defect and they should be return for replacement.

""I am still scratching my head trying to figure out how 1 blade out of the pair could be so far off""

A) now I'm not saying it's your fault here !!, but don't you think of the thousands and thousands of blades Century sells year after year that may-be 1 pair could be off-balanced ??

B) and,, if they are Aerotech Blades Century did NOT make them,, in-fact Century does NOT make any Blade that I know of,,

C) by-far, you shouldn't use Aluminum Tape on Blades !!

sorry if my reply sounds a bit rude, but I just can't see you blaming Century for this, cause they didn't make the blades, I mean you wouldn't blame GM if the tiers on you new car were defected,, call Century and tell them the problem, I am very sure they will replace them

first off, I'm not blaming anyone. I'm not even sure who makes these blades. i have purchased many many sets of these blades and never a issue one. matter of fact i purchased 2 sets this last time and only the one I speak of was off, not just a little but a lot! The other set was spot on as usual. I have no idea what happened with this set but if you want I could produce some sort of video of the weighing/balancing process to give some idea of the magnitude of the difference..Not a big deal but a little unusual given the quality Ive experienced in the past with these blades. As for aluminum tape, its the best tape by far compared to anything on the market today. Heck, It will stick to anything and I do mean anything, not to mention the strength it provides. I wish I had stock in this tape!! Maybe I can repeat myself one more time, Its the best tape ever invented!!!!
