Look through the 600N/700N forum. You'll get a good idea of what's available, and the price ranges. Plus you'll get an idea of what the other guys are running, and why.

Hell... I can fix that.
Uh oh..
Nope.

It works. Pretty simple. Basic and straight-forward.

The GV-1 is old technology. Heavy, large, and overly complicated. There are many better options available

how is the align governor
The governor is perfect, I've been using it for a while now there is no need to get any fancy one.
If the engine is new, make sure you break it in running rich, I usually run it trough a whole gallon just hovering and basic forward flight, no crazy stuff, than I start bangin it on the second gallon as I lean it out
Temp gauge is suggested to have in your field box, sometimes with changing weather you need to go 1-2 clicks this way or that way, after a while you will hear it if the engine runs lean.

Now go and fly the heck out of it!

Fly it like you stole it!!!

YUP, GOOD CHOICE

Congrats Don, welcome to the smell of NITRO!

The smell of nitro and the smoke...YEAH!

I also got a 600N yesterday and this is what i decided to stuff in for now:

Align 600LE Kit because i liked the look of it

Gp750 Gyro because i have one, If i had a choice tho i might just get the 520 with Servo or use an older Futaba 601

9252 Servos because there decent(cyclic and throttle)

Multi Gov pro because its easy to setup and worked perfectly in other birds... Forget the magnets tho, Spektrum backplate sensor is the only way for me

50 Hyper because i never had one yet, just in case i put in a better bearing
Hatori Pipe for the above

Fromeco Arizona Regulator i picked up here used

Fromeco 7.4 Lithium Battery

I still need a tail servo haven't decided yet..

GL with your build!

Fly, Fly then Fly some more!!

Here is my choice for electronics:
OS 55 engine
JR 8717's on cyclics
Futaba 520/BLS 251 on tail
Aerospire MultiGov Pro
Align 2n1
Outrage 2 cell 2500mAh reciever battery
Radix 600SB Main Blades

It's a complex, costly, glow powered anti-gravity machine!

Nothing wrong with getting some gadgets on the heli, but seeing as you mentioned you're only doing basic flying FOR NOW then, might I suggest setting up some decent throttle curves - you don't need a governer at the moment IMHO.

Tach.

Get a set of Align DS610's for cyclic, there cheap and perform just as good as the top servos out there. The Spartan DS760,CY Mini-G and Futaba GY520 are awesome gyros and the JR DS8900G works awesome with all 3.My setup for the Trex 600 is 3 Align 610's for cyclic/swash plate,Spartan DS760/JR DS8900G for the tail,Revmax gov with the spectrum back plate sensor,OS50 Hyper and a MP5 pipe.I run all this with a 5.1V Duralite Reg and Duralite 4300mAh battery and its still more than I need. This is a video of my Trex 600N with that setup,.Ive been in this hobby for 1 year/10 months total and I flew helis with the best electronics money can buy and my setup performs the same for 1/2 the price. The only thing I would change is the 5.1V reg to a 6.0V reg for more power to the servos but you can see theres no need to really change it.

Watch at YouTube

If anything go with the Align DS610's for cyclic/swash plate.Theres alot of options for gyros, tail servo's,Reg's,battery's and gov's but the Align DS610's (even the Align 620's) can't be beat for the price and performance. There $180.00 for a set of 3 versus $200.00 for 1 of the top servos and the specs are right there with each other.Thats just my opinion.

I also agree with TachyonDriver.Learn how to set your throttle curves, its nice to have throttle curves because if you ever have a problem and need to take the gove off you can still fly with throttle curves.I forced myself to learn throttle curves for the same reason and if a noob needed help,I know how to do it.

A note on the governor if you decide to get one. I would suggest to get the multi-gov pro, it allows you to enter the gear ratio and set the headspeed you want. If you go with the Align gov you will need a $100 optical tachometer and someone to tech the heli while you fly it.

Just for reference when setting up your throttle curves, be careful. On my 600 with the OS50 I'm at 2150 on the ground at 62% and the same headspeed at 70% hovering. Keep your percentages low to start, even with that small percent the headspeed could get dangerous any higher than that. Might be different for you.

You really have 2 options IMO. You can either get the tach or the multigov. If you get the multigov you can set the speed you want and adjust the normal throttle curve until switching between normal and idle-up doesn't produce any difference. Then adjust your throttle curve to match that sound through the range in flight. Or you could get the tach and set everything.

Of course you could get both as well...

As for electronics I would suggest top of the line everything, just buy it from the classifieds section to get a deal. I'm running the following:

Hitec Cyclic Servos - Don't remember which offhand - I think HS6965
GY611 Gyro with 9256 servo - Very easy setup and holds perfect
Align 2-in1
Multi-gov Pro

Really you can get just about any top quality gyro or cyclic servos, just look for a deal.

I really like the Multi-Gov Pro. It is a great governor and super easy to set up with the LCD monitor
