I have been told that, due to the freewheel ability of the Jive, there is no need to worry how low a setting you have on the governor.
My dillema is I have a logo 700 fitted with with a Z-power Z70-560kv motor and Jive 80HV ESC.
This is a great motor, and really kicks out the power on 12S, however with the Mod 1 gears fitted to the logo, I am struggling to get a low enough headspeed.
Based on Mr mels Hs Calculator, this is what I get
Spoolup with Governor @ 65%: 1968
Spoolup with Governor @ 75%: 2083
Spoolup with Governor @ 85%: 2199

I dont feel comfortable running over 2000 rpm on 710mm blades even with a metal head (RJX) fitted, so was thinking about changing out the motor, however if I could run the governor at 45%, the headspeed would be a more user friendly 1750 ish. (about 116 rpm drop per 10%)

Would this damage any components, would it still retain the same efficiency, will the current draw change for the worse, and will I end up generating a load of heat .

I have the Jive 80+HV on my T-Rex 700e. I run it as low as 40% and have not had any issues. It does run warmer at the low setting.

I also have a 80HV and I run at 47% without issues. Calculate your head speed based on your motor KV, gear ratio and battery cell count. I bet you will not be close to the throttle % you should be at. It's a Jive speed control thing. Put an eagle tree recorder on board and you will see this control holds your head speed the same from start to finish.

I understand about Kv,gear ratios etc, and also know the kontronik governor holds the headspeed real good, my only concern was low percentages in the governor setting.
I cant eagle tree it at the moment, as I only have the V2 which wont do 12S (definite excuse to upgrade I think)
For working out expected headspeeds I have been using Mr Mels V2 headspeed calculator.
Based on comparing it to actual readings on my logo 14, 500 and 600, its accurate to within 10-20 rpm, so pretty certain what it says to expect, is what I get

It will work,

Just a little while ago (2 years ago) there wasnt really any .90 sized motors available other then Acto 32-3 (555kv), which we flew in very heavy (compared) electric converted Stratuses, with 10/100 gearing, meaing 65%ish on the gov.

That said, Im flying my L700 with 2000RPM (metal head), both 710 and 690s'

Gone fishing..or hunting..or something

Thanks Fredrick.
Will give it a try at 45% when the wind and rain stops.

There is nothing wrong with running at low thr % however if this is due to not being able to get the gearing where you need it then it should not be done.

Its mentioned in the manual if you run the ESC at the lowest possible % that is runs and the heli hovers you need to change motor/gearing/lipo as it can damage the controller. For 12S 560KV or more is getting too high KV in most cases.

OK, had a chance to test it, but only hovering about as the wind is stupid here at the moment.
It seems to work fine at the lower percentage throttle, exactly as you guys suggested.
I have a Pyro motor on its way, so with the slightly lower Kv of that, (510kv) and a governor setting between 50% and 90%, I should be able to achieve a head speed between 1650 and 2050 just by altering the flat line curve in the radio.
result
