If your heli landed on the landing skids hard I would check the skid frame to see if they are bent. This happened to me twice now.... or was it three times.. can't remember. The skid frame gets bent upward on mine. Also, even though the heli landed upright both times the main shat got seriously bent. I've have to replace the front frame halves twice now as well because when the skid frame bends upwards it cracks them at the thin parts below the servos.

I love this heli as well but I have to learn to be very careful because crashes seem to cost me dearly. I had a trex600n and the crashes I put that thing through were numerous and brutal but it always stood up to the beatings aside from the usual bits.

After every non-cushy touch down I eye ball the bottom skid frame on my Radikal to make sure it has not been tweaked causing clutch assy alignment issues.

Nope, no bent shafts, no bent or tweaked frame either.

The heli hit upright, I might have still been adding pitch to flare, but it bounced up, and then once the mains were winding down it hit again, still upright.

One blade touched the ground when it flopped onto its side.

Even the flybar was fine!

I check all the shafts (main, spindle, tail) any time I hit the blades on something.

I have repaired the skids, and replaced the tail shaft bearing already. Will probably take her out tonight or tomorrow again .... but I am back to my 620's. I wanted to fly the 640's more to see how they are, so I have a set ordered again.

PS I know a lot of modelers in the Sudbury area.. do we know each other?

Wish I was aware of the blade grip trouble with the LT head.Yes I know NOW that it was all over RunRyder but I have not been on here to see it. Work has kept me to occupied to be here. So if you don't know about the blade grip stop flying and get the new updated grips.

Holy crap.

Was this purchased new? You think century would have sent something in the mail. Don't manufactures put their machines threw strength test. Seems like it would be easy to do. But I guess that cost money. Looks like it cost you a lot of money. Sorry about your luck.

If you bend a bottom frame, most likely you did not secure the fan base plate to he Inside "H" frame..

I have seen some good crashes on this machine, one with a tail slide into asphalt due to radio lockout, and the frames were not hurt ....

If you use spacers which i believe you were told to use, this will allow bending.. The way its design is to use the strength of each part

Well, they must have been harder hits than they looked so something had to give... although, nothing else broke except for the main shaft bending even though no part of the head touched anything. I did have the motor secured at the H frames but it's not the middle part of the bottom frame that bends, it's the part in front of the motor that gets bent upwards.

I just got very unlucky with my couple hard landings. I have had a number of helis over the last 4 or so years and this is by far the most satisfying to own. Especially with the FBL.

Hi guys, I just wanted to ask if anyone knows anything about Century not selling the 84 tooth gear for the Radikal anymore? I ordered one but the invoice said another part number is a replacement for it and what I got as a replacement was the 90 tooth... which I already have.

I wrote oldfart and asked him but I just wanted to come here and see if anyone here knows anything about them discontinuing the 84.

A little shout out to Phil (oldfart)... he's great to deal with and almost always has all the parts I order in stock and ships them out pronto. Great service... thanks Phil.

Thanks for the offer. I might take you up on that. I'll wait to see if they still offer them. If they don't they should really update their website. Kinda sucks when you spend your money and order something and they send you something else you didn't want. I'll wait till I hear back from Phil.

Unfortunately for me I put my radikal in the hay and the throttle servo stopped working (of course it seemed fine after ) so it lied there screaming full throttle for 10 seconds or more. Upon inspection the clutch bell liner was completely eaten away and there's scaring on the inside now. The clutch itself is spread apart and discoloured from the heat. Perfect excuse for me to get the larger clutch upgrade.

Anyone running this larger clutch? I was curious if the extra fly wheel effect smoothed the engine out?

Thanks,

You know, I just had a similar problem with my clutch! Luckily landed it before substantial damage. The stock clutch broke on my Rad. an hour ago in mid flight! It jammed itself and I had enough power left to land her! Scorched ends and destroyed bell! I too will be getting the larger clutch now!! Just gotta wait till pay day!!! Labont, if you check esprit model, they do carry the 84t gear, however, the 90t is a much better, tighter fit, and less noise, more power to boot!!! So far, my only issues have been a stripped 84t gear, broken tail blades, tail pitch slider, tail shaft, free main blade grip replacement, a fixed one way (it locked up and I took it apart and sprayed the Hell outta it with carb cleaner, fixed!), and now the clutch and bell.... ohh well, its getting better with each fix!!!!

what does a dominatrix have in common with a heli? Both beat something into submission!

Hi, ya the 6.4 gearing is really good but I don't run 620 or 640 mm blades. I want to try a 2100 rpm head speed to see if it is more desirable for me but I can't really do that with the 6.4 as the motor would be screaming.

That engine will take 2100 RPM with 6.4. As long as it is a smooth running engine.

I am running 600mm Maverick g5 pro wide chords with the 6.4 gears and love it!!! super smooth and a great sound, just have to use a bit more throttle and collective management! BTW, I am digging the ease of repairs on this bird, so simple a caveman(me!) could do it!!!!!

I'll be pushing 13,500 rpm though... I'm sure it can handle it but isn't that pushing it a little? I thought if revving too high I will get inconsistent head speeds as the motor has further to drop into its power/torque range.

To be perfectly honest I am happy with its performance at 2000 rpm and 600mm blades. I just want to test and see for my own gratification. Plus I am running FBL and I'm sure the added stability of higher head speed will affect it some how... maybe better. A little extra pop couldn't hurt either.

It is all about collective management. <take a drink>

I ran my over the past weekend at 2100 with 620s. The extra pop was nice to have on hand. Head speed didn't fall off any further than it did while running 1950 or 2000.

Again, the key here is that your heli and engine need to be running quite smooth.

OK, then I am looking forward to the bigger clutch and higher head speed. Sparx, when you say running smoothly do you mean tuned properly or are you talking about making sure the crank us trued really well?
