I have a Vibe 50 using a GV-1 and something has gone wrong (or has been wrong) with the Governor setup. Wondering if there is anyone in Southern Maryland, Northern Virginia, Delaware or Southern PA who can help me diag. I am willing to bring the bird to you. Head speed in Normal is high, head speed in idle up is way high and when I switch back from idle 2 to normal the head speed does not come back down. Setup was done by Hobby shop in South Korea prior to my departure and may not have been done quite right. I unfortunately was working and did not watch what he did so have no experience with GV-1 setup.

It's actualy relatively simple,

1) open up the hood
2) Turn the TX and RX on
3) Check to be in Normal mode on the TX
4) Use the small screw driver that came with the GV-1 (or something similar) and push the FUNC button on the GV-1 until you reach RS1
5) It should show something like 1750RS1, meaning it is set for 1750 in normal mode
6) On the TX flip to Idle-Up1, and you should see something like 1850RS2 and finaly if you go to Idle-Up2 you will see something like 1950RS3
7) Take note of the 3 values, and then continue with the FUNC button until you reach the GRt (gear ratio) which should be 8.7 for the Vibe.

Report the numbers here and we should be able to narrow down what is happening.

ok, followed those directions and found the following:
RS1 off
RS2 1750
RS3 1910
GRt 8.7

I have changed RS1 to 1750, RS2 to 1850 (I don't ever really use idle 2) and RS3 I left at 1910. Not sure when I will be able to get back to a field to test the idle ups, but will check normal mode later this week and and report back

Thanks for the help. Going to go find the GV-1 for dummies link I used to have and go back through the setup.

I also just found the radio Governor menu (9CHP) menu is active, rate up is 31 %, cnter is 55% and down is 73%. I hate to admit ignorance, but I have no idea what this means and whether it is fighting the governor setup on the bird.

No, it is not fighting the gov.

If everything is connected correctly you should be able to control the speed values (RS1-RS2-RS3) thru these setting.

For example, change the UP from 31% to 40% and go check the values on the GV1. Normaly either the RS1 or RS3 would change. Can say for sure which one because this depends on the direction of the channel.

RS1 UP
RS2 Center
RS3 Down

or

RS1 Down
RS2 Center
RS3 UP

These guys are right on..The only other thing would check is make sure the sensor is reading a decent number they say 60 but hopefully higher than that..Just curious if its not reading and its running off a high backup throttle curve instead?

Yes, with the basic setup check done, I would check the following:

1) sensor reading - go to the SEN function on the GV-1 and then slowly
turn the clutch until the magnet passes under the sensor. The higher the reading is, the better it is (75 - 90 should be easy to get)

2) governor state - go to the SWCd function on the GV-1 and then switch from Normal to Idle1 and then Idle2. THe SWCd should indicate the governor being either OFF or ON. In normal mode (you set RS1 to 1750) you will normaly have to raise the collective until the throtte curve goes above 25% to see the state go from OFF to ON.

This being said, if we look at your original 'problem':
Head speed in Normal is high, head speed in idle up is way high and when I switch back from idle 2 to normal the head speed does not come back down
Could indicate you are running the engine too lean. Also, I hope
the engine was well broken-in before you started trying to run it
under the governor.

engine could be too lean I suppose, although it is not running hot at all. Engine was broken in on another platform prior to building this heli and moving it over although I am still having trouble with mid range die out when spooling up but that is a problem for another part of the forum.

Have not tried it yet. Went through the setup with a local shop today and found a few issues. Hoping to find time in the morning to fire it up

I wanted to thank all of the RR members who helped me get this sorted. While I have still not been able to test fly, I am certain the errors in programming that were found account for the issues I was having.
