What is the protocol at most clubs as for how guest flying is handled? Does the guest have to be a member of an existing club to come over and fly or so long as he/she has AMA they can fly as a guest of a member in good standing? If so how many times can this go on before the guest is either asked to join the club or no longer come out and fly?

Just wanting to get a feel for how other clubs are handling this guest flying scenario...

If in doubt lean it out . We don't do this to save money, we save money to do this

We are on a city park so we just require AMA.

I've seen others that you need to live more than 50 miles, or let you visit only 3 times a year or some such to be a "guest"

Frankly for us its about the flying, as long as you have AMA we don't stress it, and decent people will join if they are going to use the facility a lot. You'll always have one or two mooches though.

Clubs that really depend on dues for lawn mowing and rent are another matter though.

we're a state park and only require ama, but club members get on you about joining, they do maintain the field so worth the 30 bucks.
no limit to visit for guest ama members.

This is typical of the Clubs in my neck of the woods.

In our club we have a 3fly rule. As a guest as long as you have AMA you can fly 3 times and after your 3rd time you must join the club

3 times seems to be standard around here unless the pilot is from farther away and then if they are known in our community they don't get asked about it as it's no big deal. MAAC/AMA is a must however.
hosting out of towners is a lot of fun and the hospitility is returned any time we visit them at there fields.

If you live colse to a club, and try it out with a member then it's fair to limit it to three visits before you should really join and contribute. Most clubs survive soley on dues so if your going to use the facilities, then you should chip in.

Funflies or other public events do not count. Even at indoor events in the winter if a club is hosting the event you do not have to jion the club, you just need MAAC and pay a fee nightly. Membership however may come with a discount on the indoor nights so sometimes it's still better to just join the club if you intend to fly with them often.
