OK, sorry but I just gotta complain. this is unreal.

On 8/12/09 we started out U200 uverse service with total home dvr. Installed, works great, really cool dvr technology.

I was told I was getting the 250 cash back (after 30 days). And the installer called in 2 months free hbo when he was here. cool.

First bill comes (like $350. or so for 2 months!!) and it is billing me $14. for Hbo. call them, cut it off.

REBATE nightmare time. Only $100. since I signed up on the phone. Well, I was in a chat session at the Uverse signup page and the guy wanted to call me, he did, some 310 area code. I got the service.
But now, only $100. rebate since it was a phone signup, not online. The rep just told me that my account does show $250. at signup.

We're cut off Uverse tv, still have internet ($38/mo. for 3MB) and I guess going back to Comcast Cable internet. RRRRRRR!

Why would they lie to me on the phone?
why would they let a customer cut off his service when he was told he was getting a rebate?
Why is the 3rd or 4th rep now telling me you could have gotten a bill credit, but you can't now since you cut off service? Crazy?
It's their loss, they had 3 trips out here setting service up, and then on the install day a guy here for 4-5 hours nonstop, and at one point 3 trucks, they had to do some line work.

Our Modem died after a month and that was a guy for an hour and a half trying to figure it out.

Weird. Why lie?

Starting the ol' complaint letter process....why????

They lie because they want you to sign up. Most people wouldn't cancel or complain because they couldn't be bothered or don't want to go through the hassle of getting a different account from another company. I'm sure you can do something about it if you know the person you talked to that set up your account and told you the amount of discount you would be getting. They always say they are recording your conversation for training purposes. I would make a big stink about it and yell at the head manager about your situation. If they don't give you all your rebate back I would go to the BBB or talk to a Lawyer and see what can be done.

I want to let it go,

but the part about getting lied to, drives you crazy.

I'm even on the phone and looking at my screen at the rebate, but hearing no, can't do it.

Thanks, just needed to vent somewhere. I had read before that AT&T had bad customer service. Wow.
Have been with AT&T with my iPhone for well over 2 years now. Excellent service from them. No probs. A few problems with some billing issues. But, it got resolved with quick phone calls.

One thing I do when I am ordering the type of service you did, was to tell the guy or gal taking my order that they must give me their full name, extension # and tell them they are being recorded. Have had no problems at all doing that.

Good point

I have had AT&T cell service for years and years now, and just the normal complaints. they do just as good as everyone and I like the rollover feature.

What's crazy is the rep today said that my account notes show: U200 plan, DVR and 2 extra tv boxes, and $250. cash back.

But, I only get $100.

We got the same run around pretty much from At&t u-verse. Our first bill was like $300. Was on the phone with them for like 2 or 3 hours thought I had it worked out. Then our next bill comes and it was like $600. Another 2 hours on the phone. Ended up going back to our cable company and being grateful for what we used to think was horrible customer service.

One way to solve this is with Pre Paid Legal. With a law firm on your side, AT&T would not be able to get away with this. AT&T would either refund your money or honor the contract you agreed to.

I have att for my cell service and have had them for years never a minutes problem with them have pacbell for my internet now att never a minutes issue with it also have direct tv for my tv for years never a problem with it. The minute you buy the same package bundled like that which is what they call att u its garbage. They still want me to change over and I wont do it it is cheaper for me this way then to go to the U and less problems. One of my buddys had them bundle his stuff and he has had fits ever since and never a issue before he bundled everything. Kinda tells you something if you ask me.

Problem resolved

Finally, after 3 calls and many emails and forum listings, a BBB complaint got some action.

They called and credited the owed rebate amount. She never said anything like sorry for the trouble.

She did say the customer service people do not have the power to credit accounts (make a customer happy, keep a customer, ???). I am still shocked that on 2 of my calls they just said too bad, can't do anything and let me cancel service. Not you treat customers but they are such a big elephant, probably can't find their $^%^.
