Because I hate reading what I "need" to fly (word for word from 2.4 adds)from guys who have been flying for two years.
Exactly!!
I been flying for over 40 years and never any issues and never were my radios unsafe. I am so sick of these gotta keep up with the jones attitude it isnt funny. They can keep thier 2.4 I am not replacing a perfectly good 14mz or my cheapy 7102 and all the rx's I have just because some wet behind the ears says 72 isnt safe.

Flying RC is a technology driven hobby. Thankfully technology is getting better all of the time. If you don't want to fly 2.4 than don't. You just won't be able to fly at some events. If you don't like changing technology I suggest that you take up a different hobby like carving decoys or needlepoint. The same old farts complaining about those young whippersnappers and that newfangled 2.4 are the same guys who laughed at me when I showed up at a club with an electric plane 20 years ago. Some of us actually like progress.

It's not a matter of weather or not some of us like or dislike the new technology. I'm slowly moving over to 2.4. I'm only moving on to the new projects to 2.4, anything I have on 72 will stay on 72 until the Tx or the Rx's go out. What's that old saying, "if it's not broke, don't fix it."

I think this post is getting a little out of hand. I think some people don't realize how much of this old junk some people have. The intent of this post was just to voice an opinion how 72 should not be banned at major events, just have a self run frequency board. Not many people would use it. I for one do not see any reason why this can't be done

I don't dispute that. What I don't understand is the bad attitude that many of the old timers have towards the younger guys. Not all old timers, most are helpful and make newcomers feel welcome. I am quickly becoming an old timer myself but I haven't flown at a club field in about 19 years because they suck all of the fun out of it. To get back on track I don't see the problem with a self run frequency board either.

if a 14mz is junk I think I will keep my high end junk over a low end dx6 pos. Just because it is 72mhz dont mean it is junk.

It's a safety Issue, plain and simple..............
Our field is within a quarter of a mile from numerous homes. We have guys flying large expensive airplanes on 72. Some kid that lives in one of those homes bugs his mom to buy him one of the RC planes for $29 at Harbor Freight (they sell them within 1/2 mile of our field) while she's shopping for clothes pins. The kid takes the plane home, puts the batteries in, switches it on and one of our member's prize planes heads nose first towards the pits. I think you can imagine what the end result could be. The big events are not allowing 72 simply because there is just to much risk. If the AMA wants to ban FM 72 band from their sanctioned fields they may well do it but how are they going to enforce it? The only way I see they could enforce it is by not insuring anything flying on a AMA santioned field on the 72 band. This hobby is dangerous enough without constantly wondering if little Johnny and his $29 Harbor Freight foammy is going to cause an accident or even an injury! It's not about forcing technology down our throats, it's about safety!
Respectfully,
Ed

Ed,you are incorrect. It's done out of laziness.

72 was used all these years with no cries of safety. When it came out I thought that it would be switched over in 5-7 years as people obviously would replace older systems (as needed) with the superior 2.4. It took about 3 months at our fields until 95% switched.Great marketing.

When the sky does fall..........
Most likely everything flying in it will also fly, right?

I don't buy planes at Harbor Freight, I buy cable ties and velcro there so I stand corrected on the Mhz but to think that there is no chance that some kid bought a Stryker plane at our local hobby shop and knows nothing about an organized RC Club in his neighborhood is living with your head in the sand or somewhere else a little darker.
When it happens to your plane on 72mhz than that will be one more we don't have to worry about causing another same frequency issue and I hate seeing guys lose expensive models!

Look, it happens and it's not crap. I've seen pilots lose planes because someone else turned on their radio on the same frequency and never, never did I see that pilot happy!

So it's because some one else might turn on their radio and shoot someone down that the events will be 2.4 only? What about us folks that fly 6 meter equipment? I moved from 72MHz 20 years ago for the same reasons. But now I'm being excluded from these events too? Makes no sense. The ONLY reason I can come up with is LAZINESS! There is no saftey issue, only an idiot issue.

Hapless Freight does indeed sell 72mhz RC planes.

How about a $99 mustang:http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ct...temnumber=97393

Thanks 92, I'm not crazy............
I just came from Harbor Freight and I wasn't seeing things. The sell 72Mhz models and as a matter of fact, one of my employees is thinking of buying one. Now I have to convince him to join our club so at least as safety director, I can make sure he has a numbered clothes pin on his antenna.
Thanks again!
