My search for the truth about the fundamentals of existence began 30 years ago. This excellent, gratifying journey was completed in 2005. Now I spend way too much free time poking & prodding the existentially-blind on obscure RC forums until they reveal the hypocrisy of their false beliefs in public.

I agree with Jesse when he says that religion is a crutch for the feable minded and for those completely unwilling to take responsibility for their own lives and actions.

Religion and superstition are the same thing in my opinion and they're both born of fear.
Just get it through your head that oblivion is nothing to fear and the rest of your life will be a little more relaxed.

I have to say there is a lot more data to suggest evolution than there is to support some all powerful,all knowing individual.

It is comforting to me to believe there is no god.
Personally,I'm offended by the idea.
I don't think that an eternity of bliss is fair compensation for watching a 4 yr old die of cancer.So if there is some being with the ability to stop it,then I would be obligated to despise that being.

So for my peace of mind,I will go with evolution and we are no more special than some tadpole in a pond somewhere.Just a freak of nature.

It's impossible to have an ongoing personal relationship with someone who's been dead for 2000 years.

JC was an uncommonly decent human being who wanted everyone to treat each other better -- yet didn't have the common sense to hire a good lawyer.

Actually, if the existential interests of even only a few minds are redirected away from fables and towards sanity -- as it was in Doug's (1stPlace's) case, then all the time seemingly wasted wasn't wasted after all.

To the extent that I'm perceived to be 'beating up on others', if that's so then that was wrong of me -- but my substantial life experience has shown me in no uncertain terms that tolerance of BS is among the most harmful character flaws our species has.

I think what he means to say is Evolutionary Theory is a not known as fact. It is a theory. There is a preponderance of evidence when examined to believe it, but belief in it is just that. Belief.

Honestly guys, does anyone think any of this matters? You can drive yourself nuts projecting yourself into the uncertainty of both the past and the future. The only thing we know for sure is right now. The past is uncertain. You can have ideas about it but never reach a provable conclusion because you can't go back. You have little control of your own future due to the free will of others and the chaotic nature of this universe conspiring to corrupt your own plans.

Right now is what you have. But you ARE responsible for your own actions so tread lightly on your fellow man. You can contribute to human suffering or you can contribute to human joy. The choice is yours. I say do what you want as long as you are making others happy.

The only time people trip up, in my opinion, is when they forget that the person they are talking to, or acting upon, is a person, just like them, with feelings.

Humans have the ability to detach themselves from their fellow man at times, doing unspeakable evil as though the other person were only an object. It is this detachment that creates all human suffering.

There's not a single quantum nor particle physics finding in hundreds of years of detailed studies which offers any indication that the involvement of some separate intelligent entity would've been required for the Universe to be as we perceive it today.

Our perceivable Universe began as a singularity about 13.7 billion years ago.

What came before? I haven't figured that one out yet, but I know -- with the same unwavering certainty that I know that gravity will carry my helis into the tarmac unless I build and fly 'em right -- that there are no gods, no devils, no heaven nor hell -- especially not as the minds of men nor the hundreds of despicable, money-grubbing organized religions have assembled them.

Please post some of this data for us mckrackin that shows there is more evidence in evolution then belief in God. I would enjoy examining other peoples reasoning.

Furthermore, you seem to indicate that God is to blame for not curing a 4 year dying of cancer. Was this a child of yours, if so then I am sorry to hear that, death of anyone especially a child can be very painful. However, how do you know this child will not also be enjoying an eternity of bliss? If so, this eternity of bliss would completely wipe out any painful memories of the past.

How did it get here?
