Good News......

savaspolitis

Glad to hear the increased HS made it feel better for you.... but do take the time to read over the post by Dr Ben and try some of the tuning that is available on this head... that is the beauty of this set up... you can fine tune it just to suit your flying style.... I like that "pesonal" touch!!!!!!

If you would, repost the logger data with the power out plot on the graph. It tells A LOT about efficiency.

Try the 89T gear. The model is still geared with a noticeable bias towards power versus efficiency based on the average power out being well under 100%. 8.9:1 will help that a bit.

Just curious as to what the latest happenings were with the conversions?
Did doorman ever try the lower KV motor?
What head speed did you end up being comfortable with?
How long are your flight times with the smaller motor?
Inquiring minds want to know!

Thanks for all your research efforts by the way.

I'm running 1950 in idle up with the 4025 550 on 12S, 3300mAh, and 9/89 gearing. I easily get 7 minute flight times putting little more than 2000 mAh back into the packs.

Thanks for the info,
If you dont mind me asking, which speed control did you go with? CC 85-HV.

With the motor you used, would you say it is like 90 size power or more like 60 in a 50 size model? I believe doorman made a comment about having excessive power with his motor.

Thanks again.

I have a ICE80HV. It's well matched and never more than warm.

Geared and set up as I have it, my model is pretty much on par with a strong 50 on 30% nitro. I intentionally did not gear it for excessive power because that's what costs you so much runtime. My model is a good balance of power and efficiency for my needs.

Just finished my FBL e-SDX conversion. I have three flights on it and it seems to be running great. For the motor mount I used a 4mm carbon plate. Many thanks to Dr. Ben and others in this thread for knowledge and info provided.

Here's my setup:

ESC: ICE80HV
Bec: Western Robotics
Motor: X-era 4030-3Y 470kV with 45mm shaft length
Pinion: Scorpion 10T mod1
Batteries: 2 - 6s 3300Mah Nano-tech (12S)
Gear Ratio: 8.7 (stock 87/10)
FBL: MicroBeast/Outrage head

The extended shaft on the motor is long enough to engage the upper bearing for support.

Here's photos of the motor mount:

AUW - e-SDX blue canopy; Nitro SDX green canopy:

Other pics:

On the second flight I did some aggressive sport flying(1950RPM) for 5 minutes that took out only 1300mah from the batteries. The motor/batteries/ESC were barely warm. So far I'm very pleased.

Nice Job!!!!!!!!!

abgraham,

Your machine really looks good..... following Dr Ben's set up is definetly a CLEAN and LEAN machine.... and he was able to maximize the power for longer flight times... I have a 4025 for mine and will get back to it after the summer "scale" events are past... but with the set up you have, there is NO DOUBT that you will really enjoy flying your SDX.... great flying heli.... and on e-power, EVEN BETTER....Best of luck with your machine.....
I like the carbon motor mount idea too!!!!! Nice....

@Doorman

Thanks for the kind words!

Yes, I'm enjoying it very much. Very powerful and Very fast. Sounds like a mini turbine when it flys past.

I'm getting ready to mount a bright yellow canomod canopy and neon yellow fin.... so, hopefully, I might be able to see it too.

@blackbird

I don't know why yours would be so much heavier. The only thing different on mine are the carbon motor mount and 2mm small carbon plate for the rear battery. I also got a carbon boom and an outrage FBL head. That head is a lot less beefy that the stock SDX head. That would make some difference but not that much. I'm also running the Nano-Tech 3.3. Those were the lightest batteries with that capacity that I could find.

0306-901 Compatibility

Does anyone know if the hirobo kit 0306-901 will fit the original sceadu .50?, I also bought the evo conversion kit for my sceadu .50 to bring it up to evo standards??

I was also wondering if the hirobo kit 0305-901 will fit the original shuttle ZXX. Can't seem to get confirmation anywhere?
Thanks
