Looks like I'm going to go with 2 battery packs and mount 1 on each side of the frame, instead of the front of the frame. 12S looks like the best option, but will require special ordering of a low kv motor to get the HS as low as I want it. Might get by with a 500Kv motor, but 400 or so looks like it would be better.

Thoughts?

Based on a 188 tooth main gear (Helical) with a 12 tooth pinion.

Update time!

Ended up using 2 3S 5000 packs, one on each side of the frame. Installed the Pro-Heli instrument panel and it looks great! last night I decided to build some seats, they are not perfect...but good enough for me! Moved a lot of components around so it looks a bit cleaner.

I moved the battery tray straight out, drilled 2 more mounting holes in the frame. Cut it off and mounted the SK-360 on it. The seat backs attach to the frame at the front where the spacer is bolted in on the following pictures. I painted the floor of the fuselage black after these pictures were made. The Rx and satellite Rx are mounted to the back of the seats.

A quick update, still need to put it back together! Pulled it apart to put newer, faster servos in and have yet to get it flying!

Started a new job building "Real" helicopters at American Eurocopter. I'm on the line that builds the UH-72A Lakota! Guess what my next project will be......

Here's the plant before full production began:

Finally got my 500E back together again!

Took it up for a quick test flight this afternoon, only to have an ESC failure. Lucky for me I was only about 30 feet up and was able to auto it in.
