OK... I give up... I cannot get my 450 to stop drifting in rate mode.

I am trying to figure out what everyone is talking about when they say it's best to set your helicopter up in rate mode before trying to fly in HH mode.

My heli flys pretty good in HH mode aside from a little bit of tail blow-out during fast climbouts. Otherwise, the tail is pretty solid.

I tried to do like everyone says and set it up in rate mode, but no matter how I adjust it, I can't get rid of the drift in rate more. The only adjustments I have been making are mechanical adjustments (location of the tail servo). Should I be making trim adjustments? sub trims? I was trying to get the mechanics perfect so I didn't need any trims or sub trims, but it doesn't seem to be working out very well for me.

Does anyone have any tips for me in how to properly set this up in rate mode. The best I have been able to get is a slow drift counter-clockwise (90 degrees in 3 seconds).

Why is this set-up in rate mode so important when it seems to hold pretty solid in HH mode?

What you want to do is to get your slider setup in in rate mode so the tail will more or less be centered properly.

In rate mode the tail will never hold a position it will only counter sudden changes in tail position.

It's not important, just center the slider and leave it in HH

It's not important to set up rate mode unless you intend to fly in rate mode,if your only going to use HH dont worry about it.
If it works good in HH and thats what you fly just leave it alone and fly it.

Thanks for the responses.

The biggest reason for trying to get this set up in rate mode properly is that I read in someone elses post that getting the heli set-up properly in rate mode will help with the tail blowing out in fast climbouts.

Is there any truth to this, or should I be adjusting something else to get a more solid tail on fast climbouts?

I'll keep messing around with the servo position and tail pushrod length to try and get rid of the drift. It appears to be calm out, but maybe there is just enough wind to push the tail around. It would probably be best to set up in rate mode in a gym or a big pole barn.

Brand new 9650 tail servo... crappy plastic EXI clone TR blades...

I'll swap out the TR blades with some better ones and see what that does.

Thanks.

Try some SWE carbon tail blades, very sweet, great price. Helidirect carries them
