ummmm yeah - actually most of us do. The government is already WAY too involved in every aspect of our lives. Hey - I'm unemployed, can't get any help, yet I've paid into this system for my whole life.
So tell me how this benefits me?? Doesn't. You know who it does benefit?? The people that for generations have never even bothered to get a job. Now those people, get all the help they want. And what they're short, well they just make up for by robbin', getting pregnant or dealing dope. Don't tell me sh**t until you've lived here. You don't see me telling you what's wrong with your country do you??? Nope - cuz it aint nunmy bizbess....
Hmmm on second thought, maybe I'll go knock off a liquor store, lay down with some ho and knock her up, then go peddle a little dope to make ends meet. Don't know why I haven't thought of that before.
Waiting, waiting...........

I'm one of those that are able to and in fact do the most of the work myself including the mentioned roofing....
Do you think Donald Trump is going up a ladder in a t shirt and roofing his house?
I roof my house,do electrical, work on my car,do plumbing, drywall, and paint out of economic necessity. The wealthier people I know don't at all. They pay guys like me to do it.I'm glad to have the opportunity to do it.I save my money, pay my savings first, live well within my means in a modest house, and avoid giving money away on stupid stuff like interest payments to banks.I do without until I have %100 cash saved and then I weigh whether I really "need" something. The horrible "rich guy" that I work for(and knowing how to work a calculator and set budgets) has provided the opportunity to enjoy a nice living.I had other bosses that I killed myself for that gave me a chance with the same results, too. They like me because I make them money. That is what their business is for.....I think the right wing hatred of the rich is just a way for people who don't want to put out at work to have an excuse for doing bad.

I have people I know and family members who don't get it.They need things NOW.They buy on credit cards/lines with high interest. They buy junk instead of quality.Quality will always have a resale value.Junk has none. They buy houses they can't afford. They call in sick at the least thing. They think it's cool how much they can get away with at work.It does not work that way.

This country was founded on hard work by people with a can-do mentality. If everybody stops paddling we are going downstream quick.

No he isn't, but he's part of a minority. Most people are just like you (and you seem kinda like me from what you describe) and even if the hot shots has a lot of money and spend a lot, it's still in fact what we common people spend that really matters. Each one of doesn't mean much, but together we are in fact what makes the wheel spin. No one will invest in a business with a product that doesn't sell. What sells? Well ie iPods sell, to just about all of us. Imagine if you could sell a product to every chinese guy, if you got a cent for each sold item you would be pretty well off. If you make a product that Trump and a tenfold or a few hundred other will buy you need to make a great deal more on each item...that is really simple math. And not many of us are involved in making the luxury items they have that we don't, so that part of the industry isn't really important either..

Sure we need those with dough enough to start businesses, but that really doesn't matter unless you and I buy the products, hence making sure those with a lot of money get a tax break doesn't really matter if those on normal salaries can't buy what they have to offer.....

But I believe they do.Their cars need tires, oil, and maintenance.Lumber, bricks, glass windows, pipes, electrical supplies, tractors for the lawns, sod, trees from landscape companies, and labor for all the above.Businesses they grow, create,or invest in need printing,signs,advertising,forklifts,etc........

It's really like people think there should be a penalty for doing smart things in your life.I've been lucky enough to see the #s and what really goes into running a business from the inside.I respect the people who can do it.It's hard work and emotionally draining.

BTW,I believe that a civilized society owes (yes owes) to help the people who can't help themselves. If you have a legitimate medical or mental problem that REALLY will not allow you the opportunity to make your own way,the rest of us should carry your burden among our collective shoulders. My deadbeat douchebag distant relatives getting paid to sit home and drink beer and hang out and make fatherless babies all day everyday is not.

right and right mr. bundy and dennis. I think the tinman is thinking in the right direction, just doesn't quite grasp the way we do things here. Ya see Tin, here in the US, the rich don't mind spending their money, hell they love to show it off. I realize Euros can be a bit more subdued (I lived with one for 5 years). I can kinda grasp what he's getting at, but he's just not knowledgeable about the way our society works to really understand. And Dennis, you are so right and I'm sorry you have to be related to people like that. I used to be, then divorce delivered me from the lot of them.
Opps, stand corrected, it was Bundy that deserves the sympathy!!!

Which means one of a few things about Tintin:

1) He is just messing with us.
2) He just likes to argue for the sake of arguing.
3) He is trying to make himself popular in a liberal way.
4) He is a silly ninny liberal and is lost forever.
5) He don't know nothin.
6) He is living on the government because they OWE him.
7) He truly believes what he says.
8) He is just plain stupid.
9) You can make up a few yourself.

Well that's the problem, it's not that simple.
Perhaps not. Perhaps it's more complex than that, and only Really Smart People can understand. People who, say, run the American gov't.

But riddle me this: who creates wealth and jobs- rich people or poor people?

I think if we can agree on that, rational and logical decisions can guide effective tax policy.

I thought the Government created wealth and jobs??
Amazing how many people can't grasp that the wealthy are not your enemy. They are as necessary as the air you breathe. Go ahead, ship them out and see what happens to this place. INSTANT collapse.

All you need to do is look at how the so-called "luxury tax" worked out. Some politicians who get elected by playing class warfare decided that those evil rich bastards buying yachts, fancy cars, etc. needed to pay more taxes for their toys. Ted Kennedy was one of these politicians. So of course its hard for other politicians to be seen as protecting these rich toys for rich boys and girls. It had a populist appeal. It made the rich "pay their fair share". So it passed. The result was that the projected revenue was off by nearly 100 million. People were not buying the products covered by the luxury tax. Yacht retailers suffered a dramatic drop in sales. The boat building industry laid off 25,000 employees. So its a glaring example of how targeting those top 5% will actually punish people in the bottom 70% instead. It was repealed with bipartisan support after even the dumbest political hack could see what was happening.

Well, we must have some way to finance government to build infrastructure and protect us. Thats through some form of taxation.

The danger we are facing is that the tax eaters are going to out number that tax payers. Thats not cool. The tax payers will leave or go out of business and there we are. Nowhere and in very, very bad shape.

Dismantle the IRS and come up with a form of taxation where everyone pays an equal share. Everyone. No exceptions.

No argument about some taxatiin being necessary.."Provide for the Common Defense"...But taxation seems the nose of the camel..I'd rather we did it like the Swiss, and gave our govt. a LOT less money...I'd actually like to play cowboys and muslims....

I've been lucky enough to not only see the numbers, but to be responsible for them, running my own and 2 other businesses so I know pretty well how it actually works. I do absolutely not consider the very wealthy an enemy, but I still know that as they are a minority it's absolutely not an A&O for the economy that they get taxcuts and can spend more money. There are hundreds of regular guys for each very wealthy so for every $100 or more a very wealthy spend, each average Tom, Dick or Harry only need to spend one single buck for it to have the same effect on economy. There are definitely more people occupied building the regular MB than the AMG versions.

But tell me, what made the US go to a halt now? Have the very wealthy stopped spending (personally I don't think so) or is it Tom, Dick, Amanda and Harry that has stopped spending? Most seem to think it's T, D, A & H that has stopped and need to get going, what do you think?
