I know this to be true for V-bar but wasn't sure whether giving cyclic inputs as the heli is breaking contact with the ground is contra-indicated? One pilot told me that the HC will fight the inputs and possibly flip the heli or otherwise cause it to lurch.

On the other hand, I hate being at the mercy of the HC on take off because I do a better job of a scale takeoff. I look forward to hearing the real scoop!

Kaango,

I've been using HC-Rigid for over 18 months now and have never seen this flipping-over problem myself. The heli seems to takeoff about the same with, or without the unit.

I normally take off and land without stablisation. In fixed mode I have my pilot switch set to 0% up and 75% down. These are the horiz gain levels so 0% = off.

Cheers,
TomC

RIGID

I was advised to NOT have stabilization on a switch. According to a very good pilot, he saw someone switch it on in a hover and the heli just flipped.

I'm gathering from your post, however, that even with it on you can use cyclic controls as the heli is lifting off and before it clears the ground. Right?

Kaango,

Haven't heard or seen this happen with HC Rigid. The new Gyrobot 900 does not like to be switched between stablised and non-stablized modes. Maybe that is the unit he saw flip. Or, maybe the guy did not have the heli properly trimed and/or had improper gain settings?

I've used stablisation on a switch since day one (over 18 months ago) and never have had any problems with my HC rigid (10s Trex600e). Takeoffs with or without stablisation on seem pretty normal to me.

I switch between horiz stablisation on/off all the time no problem. I don't use the positional mode stablisation.

The HC Rigid instruction manual says you can take off with stablisation on or off. It also talks about using a switch for the pilot channel (to switch beween modes). If in doubt, contact HC Support and ask them. They are usually very helpful.

Cheers,
TomC
