What is a good headspeed for hovering a T-rex700 Nitro with a YS91SR engine, Align carbon blades, 30% Coolpower, stock gearing?

On my iphone I purchased that heliTach application and today during hovering in normal mode it read approx. at 3800 rpm but I know that is wrong because I left it "searching" in the "3000" rpm range, but I am going to buy a nice tach and check my speeds.
With my Headspeed set to hover around 1811, it should read 1800 the next time I test it, by first setting the approximate range for it to search in (ie. 1800 range)

I have mine set with the stock align governor to be:
Normal mode: 1811
Idle 1: 1950
Idle 2: 2100

According to their paperwork. I will test out today to see if this is correct using the iphone HeliTach application. Very nice app for only $3.99, gives you a tachometer. Others have compared the speeds taken with the app against a skytach and they are extremely close together.

2100 might be a little too high and unhealthy for the ys91sr.

1700rpm will be a good headspeed for hover. You can actually drop the headspeed on the 700N to really low like 1400rpm for hover, but it doesn't seem to be that smooth and feels disconnected. You might get wobble, especially with new dampers, at headspeed around 1600rpm.

At 2100rpm, I give your motor a max of 20 flights

2100rpm Is way to high with the gearing on a trex700 for the YS SR engine. I would say MAX RPM for longevity is 1950rpm.

Like zyklon says,1700 is a good hovering RPM.

Try these headspeeds.

Nor... 1700
idle 1... 1800
idle 2... 1900

Remember its a 90, they make power at a lower RPM. No need to rev its little heart out.

2100 is high for any motor. I run my O.S. 90 SZ at 1950 and it has tons of pop.

Idle1 : 1830
Idle2 : 1910

Thanks for everyone's input.

Helitach app worked great here on my 700 Nitro. It read out very very close to what my %'s were set for on the governor.

Next time when a freind of mine who has a SkyTach, is out at the field, I will have him tach my heli then also do it at the same time with the helitach app and post comparisons.

The headspeeds in your last post should work nicely. Later, when you really want to throw it around, you can boost the Idle 2 up a little. I agree with the others though, you probably won't ever need to go above 2000.

Dang, seen this and thought cool app. Ran to buy it for my iTouch and then found out it needs an external mic for the iTouch.

I run 1950 and that's quite fine for power and pop.

150 flights @ 2100rpm & still going strong on YS91SR & SB19.

I tried 1950 & it was a pig.
I wound up the HS until it made the power I wanted & left it at that.

I had a mate tach it a few weeks later & it was 2100
