Hi guys,

I've bought an YS56SR engine from japan. I can't read japanese, so don't understand the instruction manual in this language. Could someone who have this engine yet, tell me what are the breakin and operating settings.

Thanks

Ted

i would leave the low at its factory setting and set the high to 3 turns open for break-in...

I have been involved with testing this engine since last Feb. What I did, was to leave the idle needle alone, 1.25 out on the high, and 2 turns out on the mid. I now am at just SLIGHTLY less than 1 turn on high and right around 1.5 on the mid. I set the low speed needle for a reliable idle right from the start. I now have 196 full tank flights on it with the new Hatori SAB 56 pipe, and the engine rips.
I spent some time with Rich from YS and one of the Yamada sons at Ircha. They, as well as a lot of other people saw how this engine performed. It is an amazing piece for sure.

Mike,

So you are saying the 56 comes with a 3 needle carb ??? I thought the carb was basically identical to the one on the 50 except for maybe the inlet size ?

Yes it does have a three needle carb the low end idle is on the other side of the carb, The high speed take a screw driver to set, an the mid has a clicker I'm not sure why they set it up so you have to use a screw driver to set the high end . The motor rips .

Thanks for responses.

I will go like Fury3D said.

@ regulater :
I thought that the idle and the high were on the same side and the mid was on the other side fo the carb ??? May I be wrong ?

How many tanks to break in this engine ?

No the high speed and the middle needle are on the same side. The Idle is on the other side. I would run at least 6 or so tanks through it before I leaned on it.

Hope this helps

On break in, I used a temp gun for a reference only, but I checked it on the bottom right below the head. I ran it in at 180 degrees. By the end of a gallon, I was at where I am at right now. You don`t need gallons and gallons of fuel to break in an engine, and I never do it slobbering rich either. I was leaning it in SLIGHTLY after the second tank, and a little bit each tank thereafter. I was pretty much all done by the end of a gallon which is 10 FULL tanks on a T-Rex 600. I now have 196 flights on it, and it still runs as good as the day I got it. After today, it will be over 200. This engine has never been apart, and the bearing and ring are still fine. You will love this engine.
