After 20 years of model aircraft and one an a half year of helis I can say i'm loving the rotary wing machines. Started with a TRex 450, sold to buy a Trex 500. Six months ago bought a Sceadu Evo 50. Love it. Bigger, better to see, stable.
I realize that i really like a F3C stile flight, making coordinate curves, precise manuevers, etc, etc.
But still not satisfied, I've thinking about upgrading to a 90 machine, possibly a Freya EVO.
Guys, tell me. Does a 90 heli fly much better than a 50? Is the investiment on this machine valid or not?
Regards

Evo 90 Ups - Awesome power (night and day), big machine, big aerobatics, fast, stable, excellent quality. Evo 90 is an excellent heli, I have 3.
Downs - Sucks fuel (small price to pay).
After I fly the 90 and then fly the 50, I tend to wring out the 50
After you fly the 90 and land the word that usually comes out of your mouth is WOW.

maybe not the answer to the qusetion, but I have a evo50 since two years and I bought a SDX this summer. Thats a huge improvment in flight. The SDX flies very, very nice.
I guess its somehow flies more like a 90.

90 feel

You hit it on the head. The SDX is a fifty that does share allot of the positive big bird 90 size feel, especially stability

SDX + OS 55-HZ engine have more power then a-90 (power to weight ratio).

the 90 is more stable though.

mvianajr,
Think about your experience with planes. Have you gravitated to bigger ones after 20 years? If so, you will likely enjoy the bigger heli.

If you aren't crashing too much, it's not that much more expensive. I have a couple older X-Specs and they are great. Think about a gasser too.

As good as Hirobo is, the best step into a 90 is the Trex 90. And yes the flight qualities are worth it.

The downsides are your fuel bill goes way up. The 90 engines do not tune nearly as easily as the 50. Everything is more expensive. A bad crash on a 90 can:

break blades, break sideframes, break your $200 muffler, break your engine if you are really unlucky, etc.

If you do not want the added nervousness of the crash cost, and you have not yet advanced to 3D autos, there is nothing about a 50 size that is holding you back.
