Hello everyone!

I purchased a 50 calibre, munitions box from my local Army Surplus store. I'm going to use it as a fire box for charging and storing my T-Rex 500 Lipo's. I will have to drill a couple of holes for the charge and balancer leads. What I'm wondering is if I should drill a vent hole in the top, so warm/hot air can escape. Of course, this might weaken its ability to combat a fire and/or explosion.

I'm wondering if anyone else has taken this approach and if so, did you add any vent holes?

thanks,

John

I use the same "fat boy" 50 cal ammo cans, you can get them at gun shows for $5-7.

These cans are water and air tight typically. You need to drill a couple vent holes so if there is a fire the smoke and pressure can escape. Otherwise you are creating another potential bomb by having a burning lipo in a sealed container.

The holes in the top will only let the smoke out, not the fire which is the concern.
