Question about the Futaba GY520.For a digital servo which is the faster setting the 1520 or the 760? the numbers would make it seem like the 1520 is faster but the Hz for each setting makes it seem like the 760 is the faster setting. anybody know the deal? and if the 760 is faster anybody know of a Micro sized servo that uses this rate? the hitec HS5084MG is the size im using now in my Rave 450.

Its not the speed, its the width of the pulse at center in microseconds.

760 or short pulse servos include the BLS 251, 9251 and 9256. I think there's a logitech that runs at 760us as well.

i tink the logitechs runs at 960us.. same like the hitec hs5083mg but u need to use either the logitech gyro or the rebranded hitec hg5000 or a spartan.. not sure if 520 can do 960us though.

So would get better performance by switching to the 760 rate? or is it just different not better?

Sure, BUT you have to have a servo capable or you let the magic smoke out. The ones I listed will run at 720 center pulse.

Here's whats going on.

A servo gets a pulse from the receiver, the width of that pulse tells the servo where to go.

The first 1000us is always on, the second 1000us tells the servo where to move to.

So 1000us is full left, 1500us is center, and 2000us is full right.

With short pulse servos they shorten up the cycle and 720us is center.

The difference is you have to have a device and servo that are compatible.

Yup, it's just a different way of telling the servo what to do. I don't think you'll see any performance increase because of it.

If it can't hover, it ain't worth flying.

Oh the short pulse servos are better, there's no doubt about that. How much "more performance" a particular person will see depends largely on flying ability and setup.

In other words, you'd have to be a pretty sharp pilot (think Szabo, Maxwell etc) to see a difference IMO

Well i have more money than talent. I just love having cool stuff. and if I think that something will perform better ill usually buy it. the problem with all the 760 servos futaba makes is there friggin huge! I could maybe fit one one but it would look stupid. and I already have a huge speed control on it (phoenix ice 50) and a HUGE reciever(AR7100) cause its the only one that will work with the 11ms of my DX7se. Anybody know of a HS5084MG sized servo that can handle the 760us?

I think to answer your question, no, there aren't any micro (or mini, which is what you need) servos that support narrow pulse width.

If you want the best, look at JR 3500g and Futaba 9257.

AR7100 on a 450? That's gotta be a first!

Okay, I don't want to start any arguments or flame wars here, but...

How would you be able to tell the difference? Frame rate is how quick the gyro is communicating with the tail servo. 720 is quicker, sure, but the servo physically moves a lot slower than the gyro can communicate with it anyway right?

Sure the servo will spring to action slightly faster when it does receive that instruction from the gyro, but enough to really make ANY difference in flight?

By all means, correct me if I'm mistaken.

If it can't hover, it ain't worth flying.

The AR7600 is a mini RX that provides the same 2048 resolution and 11ms frame rate as the 7100.

Pulse widths don't provide a faster or slower servo. There are only a few Futaba servos that work with the 760 pulse, for the most part all other servos are 1520.

The JR 8900G is the fastest tail servo and it's at 1520.

If your looking for a fast tail servo for your Rave go with the JR 3500g, it's the best tail servo on a 450. It's also 1520.

have a look here http://www.spartan-rc.com/resources/servodb/servo.php.

ive got the mks ds8910. they're slightly bigger than the hs5084mg though. same size with 9257. would be perfect for 500 but also ok on a 450 plus its rated quite good by spartan.

If you want to spend money then there is a new brushless, the BLS257, which is a mini size.
