Trying to use a Kontronik Jive 80+HV with an Xera 4035/3Y-400 motor without success.

I started a thread on this subject on the "Electric Motors & Controllers" section.

Probably the most use of this combo is with AP folks, so I thought I'd post a link here.

According to Tower Hobby's page, the Power Jazz has been discontinued, so in the future more of us will probably be using the Jive. Anyway, if anyone is successfully using this combo, their posts would be welcome here:

Great deal getting on a brand new Power Jazz for $292 shipped.

How could I turn that down.

I see no reason why the Jive would have any issues with the Xera.

I just did my maiden flight of my new 710 AP ship which has a jive 80+HV and Xera 4030 3y. Jive comes down cool and the motor isn't hot by any means. I'm pretty pleased so far.
I got 13.5 mins from 12s 5000mah leaving 20% in the packs. That with a higher headspeed than I think I will use. Still testing

I am keen to find out! Don't have a scale that will weigh it. i was aiming for 6-6.5 kg with 5d2 camera. I am aiming for 15 mins with the smaller pinion. i will tach it tomorrow. I will post some pics shortly as I am pretty proud of my first Ap build

It is a t rex 600 streched to 700 flybarless with helicommand rigid.
2x 6s zippy 5000mah packs and a seperate reg and pack for all servos to save on mains power. 710 SAB red devils. I was pretty nervous lifting it off the first time but it is dead smooth and flys great! It needs some adjustment I think. The rigid gains are ok I think but when I make a correction and let go of the stick it snaps back to level very fast and jerky. Is there a way to slow its own corrections so it is more smooth?

Seems you are the helicommand expert Noobs

Please don't hijack the thread

I wanted info on the ESC motor combo in this thread. Please start a new thread to discuss the weight of your heli.

Thanks

We need to know symptoms. How many beeps did you hear? Did the motor turn at all. Did you trying lowering the throttle trim? Your throttle in reverse?

Guys - Thanks for the offers of troubleshooting help. The purpose of the thread was just to learn if anyone was successfully operating the exact combination of a Kontronik Jive 80+HV with an Xera 4035/3Y-400 motor. So, far no one has positively indicated so.

I've sent the motor and ESC back to David at Xera who is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Great customer service and only a phone call away. He should receive it today and has another Jive 80+ that he will use to test the motor. I'll post the information here as to his results to clear up the mystery.

Basically, the motor works fine with other ESC's and the Jive runs other motors with no problems, so it isn't a programming issue. It's just the combination of the two.

I provided a detailed description of the problem to Kontronik with photos of ProgCard 1 & 2 last week but have had no response. I'd post that information here for troubleshooting help, but no sense doing all that until David has a chance to test the combo.

Problem Solved - No issue with Jive 80+HV & Xera 4035/3Y-400

David at Xera received the motor and wasted no time in troubleshooting the reason why the combo did not work and play well together. He determined that the issue was one of the 6mm pins I used on the motor did not make proper contact with the mating pin on the Jive. Even though the motor ran on other ESC's and the Jive pin socket worked with other motors, the combination of the two did not make proper contact.

Anyway, it was my fault and David sent a video of my Jive running the Xera motor. Bottom line:

There is no compatibility issue between the Jive 80+HV with an Xera 4035/3Y-400

I'll close this thread after a few days to avoid confusing folks about a problem that does not exist.

The rest of the story

The pin was not the problem. I've explained what happened when I got the motor and Jive back on the original thread which is here:
