Hi I just got the OS55HZ Hyper heli engine , but when I was about to install it on my SDX (first build) I went to the Hirobo website & there was a new Item regarding the requirements for the new engine. Unfortunately I only got the hardened bolts for the main blades, but I still havent got the other requirements like the Delrin Main gear & the blades, anybody of you guys have experienced going with the stock parts as is, or do i really need to get the other upgraded parts for this 55HZ engine, Iam just more of the F3C style(mild flying, hovering) , not wild 3D or any of that sort. Any thoughts appreciated!

its not a direct sdx reply
but my freya 60 with the std 60 plastic gear is running with an os91sxh pump without problems
the 90 should have the delrin gear but its 4 times the cost so i let the 60 one in and 4 years later it hasn't failed
i'm also running the std 60 non-hardened mainshaft without problems

i'm no 3d stick banger either

and enjoy the sdx there great

what "requirements"? Did Hirobo specifically say to use Delrin gears for OS 55HZ engine?

I would be very surprise if that were true. The difference in HP between OS 50 and OS 55 should not warrant such a need from a logical point of view unless there is something about the OS 55 HZ that we don't know about that merits it.

Just put it on the stock machine and enjoy, and while you're about it tell us how smooth the OS 55 is. I hate the sound of the OS 50 and am considering the SDX as my crash and learn machine, but the sound of the OS 50s really, really put me off. . . . they scream like nobody's business.

This is also what puts me off the 50 size machines...

NO, simply put. Use what ever you would like. The delrin upgrade grears wear less and are a bit stronger.

Then why did you spend 300 bucks on an engine for a fifty?

And more importantly, where can I get one?

Just in case gentlemen I'm flying a Sceadu Evo 50 with a Webra 55 P5 which has the same specs of a OS55 (2.1hp @ 21000 rpm).

The Sceadu is on its stock configuration, more than 50 flights, no signs of needed upgrades.

I think it is Hirobo just taking the precautionary line, i would not invisage any issues using the current setup. I will be testing my sdx over the next few weeks with a 55 in it and will report back.

i thought those required upgrades were just the new upgrades included on the sdx 3d yamamura version? the hardened blade bolts are the only ones i need

OS55HZ-Hyper w/ stock parts holding up!

hi, thank s for the reply, I did run the SDX w/ the stock parts except for the hardened bolt which i have, all seems to be holding up w/ no vibrations or problem w/ the new engine, IMO the hirobo notice is just a precaution in case you are into a LOT of hard 3D flying. The OS55HZ is truly a performer w/ an extra punch whether for Sports flying or 3d the extra torque comes in handy & on tap anytime u feel like it on the SDX. Theres another thread on rr where u can purchase/availability of this new engine, @ keimodel.com or omnimodel.com.

I'll touch up on the plastic tail blades since it hasn't been mentioned. I noticed no difference between the stock tail blades from the 72mm Radix blades I usually use.

I went 70 flights on the stock original parts until I had my first crash. The SDX brought me a lot of confidence knowing that I won't encounter any part failure.

it is also a good excuse for upgrades some fliers like to upgrade their helis even though they don't need it nor can they fly their helis hard. i would definitely get all the upgrades on mine had i had lots of money to spare too bad all goes to nitro right now
