Pulled the prototype BBC on the bench.
This is the one with new Rappy gear set installed.
As you know I had some issues with the test flight.
Time to zero everything and dial the ship in.
The first thing I did was grab JB's swash plate tool.
This little jewel sits on the main shaft at allows you to dial in zero pitch mid stick.
OMG. The push rods are golden. I turned on the radio and It was a awfull setup in the radio.
Reset everything to zip and started over.
Sub trim on several channels was 115. Oh why don't I just move the horn back to zero and not let the radio do it.
I fell into the trap. If the horn and arms are not right after a rebuid it ok. No it's not! I can not wait to fly again with a dialed in ship.
Thanks JB for the nice words. http://www.genesishobby.com/ownersgallery.aspx

Marty,
Yes, On every new set up I zero out all the sub trims. Then adjust the mecs first unless the horn does not line up.
Flew great today. The winds started gusting to 25 and she was still solid.

Are there servo arms available that allow you fine mechanical adjustment to eliminate the use of subtrim? That would be ideal.

There are blank wheels, which you can drill yourself. But frankly, I think the whole issue about using, or not using, sub-trim is much ado about nothing.

Look folks, the designers of the radios created the subtrim system (within the very heart of the programming) 'precisely' for the purpose of allowing the user to fine tune the servo's center. E.g. after getting it as close as you can using the splined horns, you get it spot-on using electrons.

Argue as much as you want - for or against - but it remains my view (after years of listening to this argment) that folks are spliting hairs with an axe on this one. Why? Simply because there is so many other places, which make a substantive difference in handling, e.g. play, as to make this essentially a snipe hunt principally popular with keyboard experts.

I'll go so far as to posit there's nobody on the planet flying a model helicopter who can feel (in a back-to-back blind test) a difference, e.g. who can reliably discern any change between a model where the servo wheels have been drilled (e.g. zero subtrim) and the very same model where servo horns get it as close as possible via the splines and then some sub-trim is used to get it perfect.

Naturally, if you feel the very difference between being able to stop and start your tick-tocks on a dime, or fly the perfect loop is due to the fact 'you' can actually feel any difference, well then, this is a hobby so go for it!

Finally, I am as anal a guy as you would ever hope to meet (or not), and believe me, as soon as I figured out this whole argument was a waste of time, I moved on to more important thing in my life. E.g. enjoying the Sunday paper with a hot cup of coffee, picking my nose, watching dragon flies eat mosquitoes, yawning, scratching an itch, watching Lynn undress, or even taking the dog out for a crap.

Flame suit on . . . but sharpen your axe first.

My 2¢

Simply amazing. GDH is consistant if anything. We can always count on him to lower the quality of any thread he pokes his snoot in. You simply have no class or dignity whatsoever. You catch your jollies by ruining threads that other mature readers enjoy and for what? If you have a dislike for John Beech so be it, enjoy your hatered in solitude. I have no tolerance for ignorant imbeciles. If you're a child hacking mommies pc I can almost understand but if you're an adult then you are truly lame. You are not a nice person and I'm grateful to not know you.

I always felt that you have a choice, if you don't like some thing its your right. What gets me is to make a effort to come onto a thread where to use the phrase "Pantera fan boys" are just to bash them.

Very immature in my eye's. This I would expect out of a 12 yr old.

Don't like it, fine no one cares !

I fly it and love it !

I also have flown the others. Each has its + and - .

The reason he jumps on JB is the others are not as accessible like JB.
He can not get a fast response off them like JB does. I am sure that others like my self would not think any different of JB if he never wasted his time on this child again.

There is a nice feature on this forum, click ignore you'll never see any thing else from this lil kid again.

It's a hobby, its what we all do to unwind and have fun defying gravity. Does not matter with what you do it with (chevy or ford or nissan). They all do the same thing. If there was one "end all be all" our professionals in the hobby would be flying that one.

Diversity, is it great !

I come here to help , chat and have a good time in my hobby. You come here to bash ?

Go get a life and stop interfering with my fun.

Thumbs up to all heli, airplanes, engines and electronics !

I guess I missed something. I thought this was all in fun, with a little good natured ribbing. There must be a back story I don't know (or care) about. Too many threads are personal attacks, especially here.

must have been a downdraft

Boy did this thread go sideways!
Anyway. I only use subtrim to dial in the horns to center.
I have had a few fabricators at work over noodle things and change the build from the design. It's total rework and few 100 grand.
I say to them, and some of you.
You think you know more then you do!

trims

I always have used the electronic trims but our teachings from others always try to say not to.

I would guess this is to make sure your zeroed as close to mechanical zero as possible before making trims with the radio.

Just a guess, but some do make it sound like its the great voodoo to trim with the radio.
