Could anyone post their experiences with aggressive 3D on a Predator gasser? Number of flights, capabilities, longevity of parts and videos would all be welcome.

There are only two very old videos I could find, one of CY flying it once, and one of a lady flying it another. The rest is all super mild FF and seeing a looping is like major stuff...

Any "real" down to earth videos and experiences?

It depends on your definition of hard 3D, I think you'll need to accept that due to their weight a gasser will never 3D as hard as a 90 nitro, others will prove me wrong. Anyway here's a clip of a Predator that's a few years old but gives and indication of what can be done

Gasser for 3-d?

I have seen a guy that used to fly for century, name is Tal Fowler, and he was doing 3d moves with a c gasser I would have thought wouldn't COULDN'T DO, YEAH IT IS POSSIBLE. Although he was using a 23cc and had some light upgrades and 690mm blades. He lives in Bessemer, Al. Try him he would be happy to talk to ya.

Yeah Rodney's heli flown by beast is the one I always think of

If that isn't hard enough 3D for you, then probably nothing is...!

I think it depends a lot on the engine. The "Wally Motor" is supposed to come out soon and produce lots more torque than the competition hopefully making the gasser a viable alternative to nitro for 3D.

That's a cool video. How many flights does he have on the machine? is it stock?

Rodney's Gasser (as you see flown by the Beast) was a stock Predator gasser Carbon SE.

Like someone mentioned earlier, due to their extra weight, they just need a bit better collective/cyclic management as they will not have the power to weight reserve that a 90 will have.

There are some other fairly hard 3D vids on you tube of the Predatro gasser also (e.g. the one mentioned from Tal Fowler at the Sulphur LA event a couple of years ago), and some are only using the G-231 motor.

If you want to do 3D make sure you get a Hanson 3D max. It makes a lot of power, but one important thing is collective management. Even on a hot summer day in Albuquerque continuous stationary rolls can be executed. Elevation is about 6k ft + density altitude.

I used to use a 13T pinion, but im now using 14T and 88T main gear. Higher head speed to get the momentum going in the main blades, then I gently manage collective. Its still very easily boggable, pls dont get me wrong.

We need torque & head speed !

hp = (torque * RPM) / 5250
OS91 3.4 hp / 15,000 rpm
3.4hp = (torque *15,000RPM) / 5250
torque = 1.19ft-lb@15000RPM
Gear ratio increasing the torque.
torque * Gear ratio :1.19ft-lb * 8.2:9.758ft-lb @ 1830 headspeed

OS61 2.2 hp / 16,000 rpm
2.2hp = (torque *16,000RPM) / 5250
torque = 0.722ft-lb@16000RPM
Gear ratio increasing the torque.
torque * Gear ratio :0.722ft-lb * 9.3:6.713ft-lb @ 1720 headspeed

G260PUH 2.33hp/13.000RPM
torque = 0.94ft-lb@13.000RPM
torque * Gear ratio :0.94ft-lb * 88/13:6.363ft-lb @ 2043 headspeed

OS91>OS61>G260PUH
They aren't to take account of the weight and the length of blades.

Which blades are you spinning? How many flights do you have on your Predy'? Do you funnel, hurricane and piro-flip it?

My preddy is pretty much new. I have about 6 gallons through it. V blades 710. I can do continuous slow half piro flips, funnels, circuits, even hit the wall. My friend, the sound coming from the blades is fantastic. Its also flybarless, so i get power to the blades big time.

huh

I flew 1910 yesterday upped from 1860 and could notice it was much better in 20 mph wind withthe sabs. I had to lower the pitch of course, but I did not notice any vibrations and am really happy at this rpm. What gears are on your pred?

I meant main gears not gear as in flb system.

I am running a Wally engine as well.
