Anyone have trouble with the Quick UK clutch?

The stock clutch broke at about 30 flights and was replaced with Quick UK. Clearance was spot on. Today upon starting, the clutch is grabbing during low idle. Just pulled the motor and everything looks good. About 60-70 flights on the Quick UK clutch.

No issues with mine, holds great. It does have more grab due to the less clearance so you have to keep the idle low.

I checked the clutch and could not find anything wrong with it or the clutch bell. Reassembled and it grabs at very low idle and you must immediately let go of the blades after starting or it kills the engine. Must be sprung I guess. Never a hot start or any abuse. Guess I got a bad one.

Have had good luck with it up until now.

The instruction with the Quick UK clutch do advise it's better fitted to a used clutch lining, it's slightly bigger OD than the standard clutch to help avoid failure caused by over-extension of the shoes. They tend to drag as a result of this.

When first installed it engaged at a slower idle speed than the stock clutch, however it still worked fine. After about 60 flights it all of the sudden now grabs way too early. Blades start to spin immediately after start and kills engine. Not sure why it worked fine and now acts like sprung shoes even tho clearance is good. Maybe bad metallurgy in the manufacture? There have been no hot starts or slippage of the clutch which could have caused it to overheat and lose temper.

Problem solved. The clutch looked good when removed for inspection so I figured another flight wouldn't hurt if I could start it and get out of the way of the blades before it died. After one flight the clutch was locked up tight. Took it apart and found a broken shoe. About 1/2 of the metal was still holding and 1/2 of the crack looked old. Clearance with the bell was good. Has always been a smooth machine so alignment was not an issue. I think there is a problem with metallurgy or tempering with this one.

thanks for this post. I am looking into getting this clutch. Sorry to see your clutch has had it, but I'm glad you got to the root of the problem. This would have frustrated me for sure. Just glad to know of the tighter fitment with this clutch. I'll know what to look out for.

Drop Quick UK an e-mail and let them know about the problem. Their customer service has always been above and beyond IMHO.

Grand RC came to the rescue and replaced the clutch. When installing new clutch I checked the clearance between it and the liner and it came out to be about 1 1/2 thickness of electrical tape (more than one wrap but less than 2). Clutch engages at barely above low idle, so clearance seems right on. Wasn't a sprung clutch that caused it to break.
