Was at the LHS today and they mentioned Spektrum has informed them that if people use aftermarket lipos in their radios it will void any warranty. Has anyone heard of this?

Repair or replacement decisions are at the sole discretion of Horizon. This warranty does not cover cosmetic
damage or damage due to acts of God, accident, misuse, abuse, negligence, commercial use, or modification
of or to any part of the Product. This warranty does not cover damage due to improper installation, operation,
maintenance, or attempted repair by anyone other than Horizon
Spektrums warranty is not unlike any other out there,if you modify it,it's yours. I've never had a problem with the lipo in mine but I have no warranty anyway as I purchased from a Ebay seller when they first started shipping back in '07. They also state warranties are only from those purchased from authorized Horizon dealers. For $229 delivered I took the chance though
Same goes for your car warranty also you know. A lot of car dealers will try to decline a warranty if you install aftermarket accessories even though there are laws telling them they can not ..

Personally if the built in regulator drops the voltage down to 3.3V as they say,I don't know why they did not just use a big honking mah single cell lipo like laptops use in the first place ..

Although the RF section only requires 3.3V, the rest of the system requires 5V as they are mainly a derivative of existing JR systems.

DX6 - XP662
DX7 - X7202
X9303 - XP9303
12X 2.4 - PCM12X

The DX6i is a system designed from square one to be low voltage and is not derived from any JR system.

I didn't fancy using a lipo in my Spektrum DX7 tx. Sure as hell I would forget to switch off the tx at night and ruin the battery! I opted for the 8 cell Sanyo Eneloop 2000ma NiMh battery. Low self discharge. (Fast charge 2Amp for one hour. I fly most days and give the tx a slow charge once a month!

At the end of the day this battery may also void any warranty!

Cheers

All manufactures or most say that. I use two diodes to lower the voltage. Work great and the voltages is within specs.

lipoly in a TX works great! I did research before installing one in my radio, people are not having problems, how are they going to know if you used one or not?

Apparantly Spektrum can find out by some sort of voltage tracker that you've used them? This is what the LHS owner told me he heard from them...
