Everything you ever wanted to know about the DX7 and setting up a GY401:

http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/p4285239/

By "DELAY", he is asking do you have the DELAY pot on the Gyro set to ZERO (as it should be with a 9253), or do you have some other value dialed in?

Did you accidentally enable REVolution mixing in your transmitter?

Do you have any binding in your tail control linkage? Gummy goo built up on the TR shaft, affecting the operation of the pitch slider?

Is your gyro mounting tape intact and functional, or is it deteriorating and about to let the gyro go off into space?

Red plug with yellow wire is plugged into RX channel 5. Are you using the gear switch to control the gain, or are you using the Gyro Sense Menu? If you're using the gyro sense menu in conjunction with channel 5, you'll need to have changed something in the Input Select menu of your transmitter. (You'll need to have read the post in the link above, and understood it).

OK...

But are you sure you have that yellow wire plugged in the right way ??? The yellow wire needs to be plugged in so that it sits on the "signal" pin......If you are using JR servos, that would be the orange wire...... If futaba servos, the white wire.....

If you don't have that yellow wire from your futaba gyro plugged in the right way, the ATV adjustments you are making will not work....

That kind of sounds like what is happening , accoring to your description of the symptoms..... that's why I ask....

Can you post a picture of how you have your connectors plugged into the receiver ? That will answer the question once and for all....

you have the yellow wire in correct,
the delay when useing a DIGITAL servo should be at ZERO (0)

after setting up the gyro/rudder servo in rate mode with the gain in the 20% to 30% range, it should be farely drift free.
then switching to hold mode with gain above 50% it should be darn near solid.

most gyro`s recommend you set the atv`s/travel adjustment on the rudder channel to max throw, say 120% or whatever your radio max`s out at. then you set rudder servo travel via the gyro itself by useing the limit setting ON the gyro.

if you are useing 100% gain in hold and are still not getting a wag, then you have to many piece`s of tape or you`re useing a metal plate between two piece`s of tape.
OOOORRRR the gyro is shot.

crash`s come easy patience`s doesnt

I'll bet that's the problem. For the 9253/9254 or any other fast digital servo this should be zero. You only put in a delay for slow servos.

Read this carefully.

If you're really thinking about a new gyro, do yourself a favor and try the Inertia 860.

For everyone harping on the signal pin on the gain wire, if it was wrong he'd never get a solid light.

Set the delay pot to 0, set the limit pot till you get no binding, if its not at or near 100 shorten the servo arm by one hole and crank up the limit pot a bit till it touches the tail case at full stick in RATE mode (light off)

Move the ball farther out on the servo horn. As far as you can get it. If you need to get a bigger servo horn. I just fixed this very problem on a raptor. Do you have the tailboom mount servo or that crappy stock linkage system?

Waiting for parts

All that does is force you to run a small limit on the gyro and loose gyro resolution, and there's nothing wrong with the stock rudder linkage, in fact IMO its the way to go. Your servo isn't getting a hot oil bath and you loose nothing in the way of tail control.
