I can only comment on my zimmerman that I used long ago on my OS 70 and the muffler my friend used on his non-hyper OS 50 (which indicates how long ago this was). We found the mufflers to be wonderfully quiet, smooth, smooth, smooth, smooth, smooth, and made good power. There were more powerful pipes out there, but the zimmermans were very good in every aspect. They were easy to tune and tough as nails.

With the modern engines and competitive pipes on the market today I don't know how the new zimmermans stack up.

Yes, make certain your muffler is helicopter specific. You typically have to know if your engine faces forward or rearward because the muffler pressure tap is not reversible from top to bottom.

hi

go to the link i posted and scan down to the bottom . and see the muffler bolted on the heli.. mines the same, head foward. i'm just saying that on the zimmerman site this muffler is listed as a airplane muffler ,so i'm wondering if it will perform well on a 50 hyper motor

I have a zimmerman muffler that I bought, thinking it was an airplane version, but I found out the header is not properly positioned to accept a heli engine with the backplate mounted down and the crank pointed up. In an airplane the engine is mounted horizontally, but in a heli it is mounted vertically. The header and mounting flange on the muffler must be welded on for its intended use.

Best on the market

Zimmermann makes the best mufflers on the market for all applications and they can make custom pieces if needed.

Tyler makes a great point in ensuring that you get the correct bolt pattern (vertical / horizontal).

Have had a Zimmermann 50 muffler ever since the O.S 50SXH came out!

It has survived crashes well and is still like new except for a slightly dented output pipe. You will also not strip the threads as its is stainless steel.

I am have tried Muscles Pipes and Hatoris and and rest assured it gives just as much power but more quietly.

The only down side is it weighs more.

Its currently on a Novarossi 57

hi

i got the new zimmerman 50 muffler today.. it looks really nice! the actual pipe is almost the same size as an align pipe ,about 1 1/2 in shorter but with the header on it it sticks out way past the heli, which is cool.. the quality looks great! i'l let you guys know how it performs when i finish the new 50 build that i am putting it on...
