Did anyone else in the UK see Dragon's Den last night? Did I understand it wrong, or was Peter Jones suggesting he has spent over 100,000 securing the rights to sell helicopters with a contra-rotating blade system in the UK? And he says they are the only company in Europe to own the rights to do that. So, where does that leave the rest of the manufacturers? Are many other companies selling similar products illegally? And who owns the copyright - is it Hirobo, who I think made the first one?

Just getting this back on the top of the board again because I posted it early this morning and I would like to know if anyone else in the UK has an opinion on this

I didn't see it but am interested. What was it said in context to?
Was someone trying to get money to market a new type?

For a minute there I read counter-rotating...

It's easy to find an excuse to do wrong. Hard is not to find an excuse to do right.

Thanks for the link. It seems you hit the nail on the head with your post.
I reckon it must be Hirobo who have the patent which probably came about from the XRB.
I'm not sure about the other small helis. Would be interesting to know if nothing else.

Silverlit

It may look like that, but Peter Jones is referring to his patent on these http://www.bladeztoyz.co.uk/, so we're talking micro size.

I think it's so sad that the dragons are always "so impressed" that someone has gone to china to get it made on the cheap.

Businessmen like Peter Jones are only interested in huge profit, and in a niche market the best way to do that is to make sure you dominate it. It wouldn't surprise me if he now tries to p*ss from a great height on every manufacturer, distributor and retailer in Europe who sells contra-rotating helicopters without having paid the patent owners (Hirobo?) for a license. It could get very messy.
