Dang why are there so many gyros available now I have no idea which one to get. I did a lot of searching and everyone of them seems to work great.

The Spartan and Mini-G has great customer support, the futaba gy520 is still new but has some good reviews (I just like it because it's tiny but then it doesn't support higher than 6volts, the jr 357 has some good reviews too but after hearing how hard the 770 gyro was to setup it turned me away ( but than the jr350 is like the updated version of the 770. I'm lazy and like stuff thats easy to do lol

Well I decided to get a Mini-G for one reason: I been looking on the rave forum and Brian and CY seems to really go out of their way to help out their customers. That's a big plus to me Plus I help my buddy setup his Solid G gyro and it was a piece of cake to setup. I bet the Mini-G should be the same way.

I am planning on using the Mini-G on my 450 pro. Can't wait to try it out and replace my 401. The 401 works great but when I do piros it's never really consistant and the tail seems to be too fast or too slow when there's wind.

Bout time you made up your mind. I just completed an order for some new servos for my 450 Pro. But you're going to have wait until I get them installed and we fly together to see what they are.

The mini-g would have been my last choice among that list. Don't get me wrong it flew great but it was finikie. Among other things I could never really tell if I was for sure in HH mode before I took off as there isn't an LED that signifies what mode your in.

I love the spartan (first choice) and the 520 is a close second but the others are great as well.

You can disable rate mode in the Mini-G if desired. This eliminates the worry about if it is in head hold mode or rate mode.

Just an FYI.

Build it, fly it, crash it. Repeat as often as needed.

You can tell what mode it's in just by moving the rudder stick. The two modes behave noticably different.

I too read that in the manual but when I tried it on my trex 500 I saw no noticeable difference.

FYI, here is the behavior I spoke of:

Move the rudder stick full deflection, then return it to center. If the rudder servo returns to center you're in 'Rate' mode. If the rudder servo stays at full deflection, you're in 'Heading Hold' mode. There is no grey area - it's pretty black and white.

How a gyro behaves if the remote sense lead is not plugged in, plugged in incorrectly, or if the channel it's plugged into is outputting a neutral pulse width (0% gain) is product depenendent. I don't have a CYE gyro, so I cannot comment on what happens with it. Maybe someone that has one can chime in.

Rain... Rain... please go away so I can get some more flights in
I was able to get a few setup flights in with the Mini-G and had a few problem at first. Piro's to the left was faster than piro's to the right. And when I was doing slow piro's the tail didn't feel smooth. More like the look of a notchy bearing (best I can describe the feel and look) Well I did a reset to default since I got the gyro second hand or maybe I changed the parameters on accident I was playing around with the G-View looking at all the cool stuff I could adjust not knowing anything about the advance settings lol
Readjusted everything and got another test flight in and the tail was awesome. I didn't get to really push the Mini-G but the tail just feels much better than the 401. The tail had more of a natural feel to it.

I notice that the Mini-G comes set with 40% expo. I'm not used to having to move the rudder stick a lot to get the tail to move where I want it to go. Can I change it? Should I use expo on my tx or can I change the expo settings on the mini-g with the G-View. I know having expo on the tail comes in handy when doing aerobactics. I'll prob get used to it over time.
Also if I want to speed up the tail do I just bump up the Rudder ATV's like on the 401, 601, and logitech 6100? The Mini-G is so easy to use but I'm still learning on the advance features it has. I know I should just leave that alone

You can change the expo on the Mini G through the G View to tune it to your liking, I am running it at the lowest setting which is 10 on the gyro. You are correct, to increase the pirouette rate you increase the rudder ATVs like the 401, 601, and 611s. Be sure to focus on getting the highest gain possible with no wagging in high speed maneuvers, it will yield the best results with the gyro.

And if you notice it pirouettes faster one way than the other you can adjust the piro balance which corrects that. Usually 50% works best for my set ups, may be different on your helicopter.

Jason,

I just mounted a Mini G on a home made mount in the frames, under the main gear, on my 450 Pro. I have it paired with a Futaba 9257 tail servo.

I tried it out for the first time today. Everything seems to work great but I am getting a slight (maybe 45 degree) nose left kick during a full power climb out. Since this is my first time using a Mini G, do I just up the gain until the kick is gone during climb outs?

I should note that my 450 Pro is new and I have it equipped with a Jazz 40 ESC, Scorpion 2221-6 motor with 12t pinion, Hyperion 35C 3S 2200 mah batteries, 6100E rx, and 5065's on the cyclics. Everything else on the heli is flawless.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Gary just up the gain to the highest you can before it wags.Mines was doing the same thing and now the tail holds rock solid.

Thanks for the tip Jason. Hopefully I get to see you fly one day when Im over in the west coast

Most likely the gain is too low, but check to make sure when in normal mode on the gyro, that you are centered on the tail shaft yielding 6-8 degrees of pitch (this goes for any model), and adjust the linkage length accordingly to allow the heli to hover in normal mode on the gyro and not be pirouetting in either direction.

Yea be sure to shoot a PM over if you are in the west coast to see if you can stop out at a field.

Thanks Jason. Yea I centered the tail pitch slider on the tail shaft, per the manual. That gives about 8 degrees of pitch, just eyeballing it. I will definitely try upping the gain til the tail wags and then back off a bit.

Too bad it won't stop freakin raining. I wanted to get several more flights on my Pro. Oh well...
