Funny how Flat Earth Society was mentioned as I happened to be discussing it with my wife today. There is plenty of evidence to suggest the earth IS indeed flat, while many more conspiracy theorists are hell bent on believing the world to be spherical. I'll go with it being flat, much like galaxies and solar systems are. A flat Earth is easy to prove given the effect of centripetal forces over time on a moderately fluid body.

Datsa Mazing!

I'm applying centripetal force on a moderately fluid body RIGHT NOW!

Have you been 'peaking' through my curtains again? Shame on you.

OK.

How do satellites orbit a flat object in space? They would kinda get flung out to space at the corners, don't you think?

Show us your proof of a flat earth. I have to see that.

Dennis - If a satellite was orbiting a planar object at some incident angle then it would initally be an oval orbit. However, in time it would settle to a stable orbit around that which would provide the greatest gravitational attractive forces and thus would be a planar orbit around that of the discs plane.

Gimbal - an exoskeleton based entity with three hands contained within your two hands sounds enticing. Do share

and,,,

the Earth must be flat, because if it was round then wind would only flow down around the Earth, but wind blows in every direction so it must be flat,,,, right ??

Now if the universe was infinite then it would be fair comment to say that the ammount of stars up there would also be infinite and therefore every line of sight would end up at a star.
So in theory the night sky would be a pretty much completely lit up everywhere and indeed very bright.
Ok, Voodoo is just being a jerk.

Light follows the inverse square, just like sound and gravity do. Which means for example, if someone is twice as far from a light bulb than you, it will be 4 times "dimmer" than compared to what you are seeing. If they are 3 times as far away, it will be 9 times dimmer. So light objects very very very far away just have a really really REALLY low intensity and our eyes can't see it. Just as Voodoo posted the pic of, I think it was Hubble they used, they pointed it to a black region in the sky for quite awhile and gathered up enough light to create a picture and show thousands upon thousands of galaxies unimaginably far away from us. And to say there is an infinite amount of stars wouldn't really be correct, that would be saying there is an infinite amount of matter and mass in the universe, when really there isn't.
Lets say for example, you are in a spaceship of sorts and you find yourself beyond all galaxy's--- in the void of deep space Are you actually moving at all if space never ends or is movement only relative to other objects ?
Depends if you are accelerating. If no acceleration is involved, you could claim yourself at rest, while other things move around you. But if the other objects have no acceleration, they could claim themselves at rest while you are the one moving. So motion would be relative to other objects I'd say.

And about the earth being flat, well, that's just completely outlandish. How would gravity work in a 2 dimensional planet? How thick is this 2D world you live on? Gravity acts through the center of mass of a planet. So the people living near the edges of this fantasy world would have a force of gravity not acting straight down, but rather at an angle towards the center of mass.

I LOVE MY EVO!!!

I have a question.

What time is it?

Not earth time, but in space time. What space time is it on a universal scale? Where does the "blink of an eye", we call humanity fit in?
