I have a Miniature Aircraft X-Cell 1005 with a Zenoah G321. It has the black square "muffler" on it, however it is quite loud. Has anyone ever clamped a supplemental muffler onto the outlet of the stock unit to bring the noise level down? if so, do tell.

Thanks,

KT

I don't fly gassers, but logicly more restriction + more weight = poor performance.

The black rear-mount Zimmerman seems to fit the 1005 very well.

If you try to run a mousse can or some other type of secondary silencer, you better be careful not to fly inverted. It's one thing to have an object fall off when you're right side up, and quite another when your upside down.

You could probably find a used Century V2 or V3 for $100 from someone on this forum.

I run the Zimmerman muffler made for the 1005. I bought it at HeliProz South. It ain't cheap but it fits within the mainframe and is worry free as far as leaks go. It is alot quieter than the stock Zenoah muffler and it looks great.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

I also run the rear zimmerman on mine

Works well for this bird, though mine several years ago developed some leaks at the mounting ears after a few seasons of use. I sent it to Clarence who is a modeler good with a welding gun and he welded it back to perfection for me. Been holding up since, now I just repaint it with high heat auto paint every couple of seasons to give it that fresh new look.

Gasser muffler coming loose?? I may have the fix!!

I keep reading about gasser mufflers coming loose and I think I understand why. After receiving a Century V3 muffler from pphil611 (thanks Phil) I tried installing it, but because the muffler itself is threaded (for installations that bolt through the motor into the muffler, like nitros do) there is absolutly no way to get it any tighter than the amount of pressure that pushing it onto the motor while tightening can give you. My solution was to drill out the treads. This way the bolts actually pull the muffler onto the motor. I then ran the motor 3 times and tightened the bolts between runs. If all else fails I'll try adding some Permatex to the threads per Phils instructions.

Thanks,

KT...
