I have a Raptor 50 and an O.S. 50 Hyper and it flys GREAT, however my muffler has vibrated off a number of times and stripped the threads. Now I remember a few posts where it says to get a longer hex bolt and nut. That is great but I would like a new muffler. I told the BOSS(i.e. wife) that I need a new pipe, didn't mention the hex bolt thing. Any suggestions for a new pipe that will not break the bank but be a nice upgrade to the standard pipe?

I'll get a new pipe not sure which but will get the screws as well, good thought though.
Was also wondering if the MP5 will fit my Raptor, it looks like the front will interfere with the canopy?

You will need to make some small changes to the canopy to get it to fit nice. Can be done with a Dremel for excellent results.

I have an Mp5 with my OS hyper and it works great. Put some lock nuts with nylon locks and and also loctite. The nylon will eventually melt but they seem to still help hold in place. I have the 3d canopy and it just barley clears the canopy.

Your LHS has the bolts and nylon castle nuts in the R/C Cars section. 42mm long X 4mm Allen head type. Or take the ones that come with MP5 package and go to a fastanel hardware facility and order them. They cheaper there if u going use a lot of them. The ones at the LHS come with four bolts and nuts seperately. Might need to grind some off but I didn't.

OK, here's my opinion from previously owning an R50T.

The MP5 has less power than the stock TT pipe that comes with the heli. I had an MP5 and hated it, turned my R50 into an instant pig.

Second, you get screws with a new muffler so you don't need to buy any.

My TT muffler also stripped out so you really didn't do anything wrong.

Best suggestion I can give after using a bunch of different pipes, from budget to high end.

Best pipe for the money is the Outrage 50 pipe. Plus they have a 50% crash replacement.

IMHO, the stock TT pipe works really well so just drill out the pipe and use lock nuts.

Maybe you should tell that to 3 of the guys at my club that had it happen to them and the few thousand people that had it happen to them here. Some have good luck and some don't so don't make it sound like its never happens .

Got your back on that one, I agree...
I tell anyone bolting on a muffler to run extended length bolts and add the Nylock nuts on the outside of the muffler!
WHY?
A loose muffler, One time can lean burn a engine, is it worth the risk of not taking the preventative steps?????

The MP5 is a great pipe, as are the Hatori pipes. The Hatori are more expensive though.

IF you were to use a longer bolt and nut, bear in mind that the nylock part of a lock nut will melt, and won't work as a lock nut for long (at least it didn't for me). I have instead found that two regular nuts "jammed" together has been the best solution.

I can understand since you have owned only one nitro that you know all there is to know.

Anyway, plenty of us here that have not stripped out ours doing it properly. There is a technique.

Tighten the muffler snug and and after a flight while the motor is hot, snug it down again. That's all you need.

I am sorry that you know thousands of ppl that have stripped out mufflers. That means thousands, according to you, are doing it wrong.

Tightening a muffler down too much will strip them.

If you continually run a loose muffler, maybe. If you hear it come loose, and you will, just land it. It's not the end of your motor in two seconds.

That is extremely unusual in my experience and those at my field.

You keep thinking that mr.knowitall .Looks like your the only person that thinks this way (read other replys) but you wanna try and make me look stupit .Kinda back firing on ya LOL,I remember you as one of the guy's on the other site allways arguing with people telling them there wrong and your right.Sorry that you don't know the technique (tunning your motor) cause the MP5 tune pipe is 10000X better than the TT "muffler" or maybe you can tell the other guy's that replyed that your 100% right and there 100% wrong cause YOUR the only one that disagrees .

Thanks for all the great advice. My problem now is I cant find any screws that will fit. My LHS didn't have any, Walts in Syracuse has 3mm by 50mm which I'll have to cut down. Can't make it down there till after next week. Bummer. I'm on a short vacation to PA and will hit "The Hidden Hanger" near Harrisburg. They only have 3mm x 50mm also. I thought I installed the pipe correctly after it came off the first time but I guess not. If I can get the proper hardware I'll do it correctly the next time. Anyway, it just sucks to not be able to fly till after next week. Oh well, I can always get a new pipe, Outrage50. Thanks again to all.
