Just getting into CP helis and I see this phrase a lot on different post and not sure what it means. Can someone help me out. People refer to "Just banging the sticks and not learning collective management"

Thanks

Collective management is the ability to properly use the correct amount of collective (pitch, left stick) during manuevers. For instance, if you use too much collective on certain 3D you can easily bog the heli.

Stick banging IMO is just slang for really working the helicopter around, a good thing. But the way you phrase it below, sounds like a negative statement.

Well there are people that bang the sticks around and do nothing more than bog the helicopter and then think they need more power or better blades or whatever.

Collective management should really be called energy management because it relies on the ablilty to know when to use, or back off collective AND OR cyclic to obtain the results you want without bogging down the head.

As Justin said, it's also used to describe a more violent flying style featuring fast changes of direction or attitude, and lots of blade farting.

When old farts like me see someone stick banging, we get jealous because our reflexes are no longer quick enough to do that. Sometimes we say that's not the proper way for a heli to fly.
But we know it takes tremendous skill to do accurately. It's also nice to hear something fart without the smell.
