This morning’s test flight was short but safe. Everything seemed to be okay.

The red wire from the ESP is out and secured back with heat shrink tubing. I followed the wire diagram as instructed; not sure what might be wrong?

Anyway to check to ensure that the BEC is working properly?
Yes. Attach voltmeter to the red and black wires and see what the voltage is. For the Esky servos, it should be around 5v (+/- .2 volts). I have old servo extention that I've cut open for this purpose. I can use it measure voltage, or put the multimeter inline to measure current draw.
Also, one quirky thing is that when I wired it up and plugged in the battery (the BEC green light turned on) but nothing happened.
Do the servos work?

shrink wrap

Really simple and without upgrading simply take a hobby knife and cut away the shrinkwrap that is over the cooling fins on the heatsink I haven't had any problems yet I also positioned the ESC close to the swashplate on the left side near the motor so it gets downwash from the rotors.

Yes, everything worked and the test flight went fine. I only had about 3 minutes left on the battery.

When you first plug in the battery and nothing works, does that include the servos? Or are you still having that issue?

I'm not sure what you're describing, or what you mean by the Stock ESC doesn't have a BATT input?

My stock ESC has a deans input from the battery and a connection from the rx to the ESC for control. Contained in this connection is a power connection that powers the Receiver and servos connected to the receiver.

If you don't disconnect the red wire from the stock ESC to the receiver you're getting power from both the ESC and your new BEC. This could create problems?

My system is set up just like Heli_KV's I have the power from the battery to the ESC and BEC wired in parallel straight from the deans plug - No Y involved. HOWEVER, if the Y is straight from the battery to the ESC on one leg and the BEC on the other there shouldn't be a problem.

I was referring to the stock Rx, not the ESC. Most modern Rx have extra servo port labeled "BATT". This is for an external battery pack like the nitro guys run, or an external BEC like we run.

No BAT slot on the stock receiver

Sound about right?
The stock (green) Esky receiver I got with my King 2 has 6 channels plus a Batt channel for a Grand total of 7.

Does your receiver look like this except 72 mHZ and a white antenna ? If so, you have 6 channels plus a batt port for your external BEC.

Yes it has the extra port, but no identification like the picture with the "B". (silver oval with no letter) Is it safe to assume I can use it for the BEC? That would make life real simple.

Greg, Got it.. my error.

Jabo,

My Heli is the BeltCPv2 with the 2.4Ghz trx/rx setup.

I have the battery slot on the receiver as well. It's all the way on the end and the RTF kit ships with nothing connected to that port (since the ESC is powering the system). I connected my BEC to that port.

I may be beating a dead horse here.. BUT.. Better safe than fried.. Make sure you don't have a power wire coming from both the ESC ***AND*** the BEC.

Hope this helps.

Yep, that unlabled port is the batt port, plug the bec in that port without fear.

You guys are making it to easy on me. THANKS!

Yes, I did remove the red wire from the original ESC (backed it out of the plug and secured it with heat shrink tubing.

All seams to be working. My fear is with the high quality Esky electronics...cough, cough...burning something up.

So far as is good

All is good, one full battery a whopping 6 minutes and everything worked great. Have to say, although Nitro is a pain to carry all the gear...but I love the amount of fly time.

With that said, closing this post thanks for all the great advice, moving on to Batteries and Chargers...6 minutes isn't going to cut it.
