The "Crashing stage" isn't the issue for me. I have a 50 size nitro heli as well. I got this bird because I can play around with it locally and don't need to drive 20+ miles one way to get it out to the field to find it has problems. This e-heli I could hover in the street in front of my house and not have to worry (as much) about radio glitches, or something causing it to take somebody's head off, or demolish a vehicle/house. I'm still used to my Sceadu 50 however, where if I wanted to, I could flip it inverted without it moving... No loss in altitude, no loss in head speed, and no change in position. This MX400 however, I attempted to flip it inverted, and it took it 5 seconds to completely flip.. it's sloooooow when it comes to going inverted or anything else of that sort. This is why, even with a decent amount of altitude, doing that loop ended up bringing it within 5-10 feet of the ground, and when it lost head speed with it already having that much diving speed and rolled one direction while it was a small bird off at a distance of 200 feet or so, I couldn't tell which way it rolled, and I rolled it the wrong direction to recover.

I think I may have a motor going bad as well, as I had a few times where the head wasn't spinning, and I gave it a little throttle to get the head to start spinning up, and instead of getting the head to spin, I just heard a loud digital sound from the heli. I brought the throttle back down, and then brought it back up slowly again, and the head started spinning up just fine. My thoughts were the motor was choking and not wanting to spin up. This is after swapping the ESC because the other one had issues where when hovering the head speed just suddenly dropped without any major change in collective, so I can't imagine 2 bad ESC's in a row. I'm thinking maybe the ESC wasn't the problem and it was a bad motor...

Regardless, my Sceadu 50 doesn't have any tail issues with the GY401, but this MX-400 has had nothing but difficulty with both the Align gyro that was on it, and now the GY401. I tried adjusting it so that the heli flew straight with no trim adjustments, and I'd end up having to compensate on trim. I even removed and relocated the servo arm on the servo, trying to compensate for the trim changes, and somehow it didn't seem to help. It would be off 8 clicks one direction, and once I did the 8 clicks in that direction, it held really well other than a little bit of hunting from the gyro being right at the edge, to switching batteries and the servo being off 8+ clicks the wrong direction. I could never get better than an 8 degree + or - collective pitch range, and the CCPM rotation sucked so bad on turning the bird that it took numerous seconds to invert it. Maybe I'm asking too much from such a small bird, but my Sceadu rotates on a dime to the point where I can flip it inverted when it's 3 ft off the ground. This bird I better get at least 50 feet of clearance if I want it to flip inverted without hitting the ground, and even that's questionable. I figure it's just the bird I chose and I should choose better next time. What is everyone's thought on this bird? It's affordable and I could drop my current electronics into it. I also have some HS81MG's laying around, but don't know if they will fit this frame. It's supposedly 100% T-rex 450 compatible, but seems like it has a pretty rigid setup... Thoughts?

oh, as for doing 4s, I already have 4 - 3S 20-30C 2200mah batteries. I'd like to use them up before I jump to 4s. While I'm not a newb, I'm also not an expert. 3s I think can still handle the occasional rolls and loops just fine. I'm not doing piro flips or anything crazy like that at the moment. If anything, for the most part, I enjoy flying even standard helicopter manuevers... figure 8's etc... Just working on orientation, flipping inverted and working on orientation. I'm not yet to a stage where I could sucessfully do a piro flip and maintain orientation.

Since you want to use the same bats and servos, maybe have a look at the new 450 pro, the price seems to be getting almost reasonable now the innitial "cool new toy to have" is starting to cool down a bit.

It looks like a real nice 450 size heli, I would say get a 500 ESP, they come with servos included and are there about the same price as the 450 pro, but then you would have 450 packs and servos going to waste.

You can get a mini titan kit, or Align 450s kit with motor and esc for next to nothing these days,. We pay as little as $220 so Im guessing $150 or so US, maybe less.

EDIT. As you say, I think the Mx 400 is probly not worth the trouble, I wouldent go any less than a Mini titan or trex 450s.

EDIT2. Sorry I dident see the link to copter x. I dont know if there good or not so I cant give you any advice. (I would just get an Align there a safe bet IMO.)

Maverick,

IMHO the T450 Pro is a very good (if not the best) deal out there in 450 helis. I have one, and it ouflies my Sceadu by a lot. It's a blast to fly and will do what it's told to. It flies inverted, backwards, does piroflips, funnels, loops, rolls, etc. in its stock form with ease. Just look at finless videos on Hel!freak to get a good idea of the build and take your time to do the cable routing (I chose to leave all the cables outside).

Good flight, good night!

I may just rebuild the Heli-Max MX400 and sell it as a RTF system and then get a new bird. The 450 apparently can support a bit larger servo's, so getting the HS65MG's sound like a good plan for a 450.

From my understand, the Xcopter is basically a T-Rex 450 on roids, and it sure looks solid. Not much plastic/things you'd expect to flex/warp through flying, making a nice solid control surface. I can't stand slop (Like my Sceadu 50's tail blades), and my current bird seems to have a decent amount of it. I'm almost tempted to get digital servo's, but don't know if it's really worth it. I may not be an expert pilot, but when I hear of people setting up their bird to the point where they can get it into a hover, and set down their controller, and it holds it's location (of course, with no wind), that to me is unheard of in anything but a coaxial, and even that will drift a little... I'm running 100% digitals on my Sceadu, and I love it, but it's hard to say that it's anywhere near the same as the smaller E-Bird, as I've never flown a nitro bird without digitals.

I think I'll make a new thread about CopterX and see if anyone has experience with them, and their thoughts...

the Copter Xis almost as good as the Align version
Align has better bearings and Swash plate
Get the 450 pro swash and CY dampeners for it you will never know the difference
