I'll use the external BEC that I have.
I'm using it with my Hacker X70 ESC I'm running now. I just need to get some bullet connectors for the motor wires on the ICE75. I'll report back with some flight reports later in the week, after the install. I think I'll hold off on updating any software for the time being. I'm off until Saturday at the moment, so unless I pick up some work, I'll be up flying by Wednesday.

The less a man makes a clarative statement, the less likely he is to look like a fool in retrospect.

How many amps can the 100 sustain for a while?

I guess it depends on what you consider to be "a while," and how much airflow you have over the controller.

At 100A continuous at 92% throttle (worst case), the ICE 100 will temperature stabilize at about 160F (70C) with an airflow of 10mph. At 5mph airflow, it will temperature stabilize at about 175F (80C.)

At 140A, 100% throttle the ICE will hit cutoff temp (about 220F) in about 3 minutes with 10mph airflow, or in about 1:40 with no airflow.

This is from my notes -- from the Alpha test units. The production units are probably a little better.

Also, you must consider that you can't setup a system that draws huge power and then use the throttle to try to be "easier" on the controller. Lower throttles can be very hard on a controller when the system is setup where the motor is forced to create too much torque at too low an RPM. The average current may be low, but the partial currents may be very very high. (for example, if you run a controller at 30% throttle, with 80A of average current, the partial currents will actually be around 250A -- which may damage a 100A controller...)

Ice 100
Okay...So is the Ice 100 going to be safe to fly on a 6s powered logo 500 with 550's then?

is it going to be able to handle the amp draws?

Hello

Going off to a slight tangent, but has anyone run the ICE with a123 batteries? The voltage drops quite a bit more than lipos do, so, was wondering how well the ICE handles the governor under high amp draw.

cheers, Khan

Here's a log of my logo 400 with an ice 50 on 6S 20C lipo.
The pinion was a 15t and the maingear is 200T.

As you can see, its geared very high to maintain the maximum amount of torque. I think it fluctuated less than 100 rpm either way under heavy loading (tic-tocs with intentional bad collective management) and much less than that under normal flying.

I have the govornor gain set at 35 for those tests, on a scale of 50 i believe.

Overall, i don't know how it compares to a kontronik jazz, but for the money, i'm VERY pleased.

Sorry if this is a dumb question - but how do you get the governor modes to work right? I tried the low mode, and the headspeed is too low, and I tried the high mode and it is way too high. It is like the ESC is ignoring my throttle values. I just orded the USB link so maybe that is the only way to adjust headspeed. Any thoughts???

Hello, Peter. What's happening? We need to talk about your TPS reports

Thanks Ken - so there is no way to do this without the USB thingy then?

hello

I am using an ICE 75 with internal bec on my logo 400 fbl with scorpion and 3000 mah 40C and it is a bomb and rock solit in RPM. So far no issue with this ESC after about 150 flights on the T500 and now 40 flights on the Logo.

I am putting now an ICE 100 on my logo 500 6S (with external RX supply) because I like the ICE setting system (by computer).

I have a question about the ICE 100 from CC.
I had a unit fail on me approx a week back, and obviously am really negative about the units at this stage. I used the BEC, wich failed on me.

Should I be afraid of putting a CC ICE 100 in my heli, please guys, I need some positive info here. In the past a Phoenix from CC served me really well.

Very little people, from what I hear, have problems with the CC ESC'S. But what we are hearing is people having problems with the CC BEC pro. Therefore I'd say fly the ESC without worry.

Thanks Steff, I am busy installing a seperate BEC, and am planning in using the CC ESC on the motor ONLY.

Look one can easily land without a motor, but the landing without a BEC is quite a bit rougher. (I KNOW !)
